First Competition - Saturday, September 13 @ Lawrence Central

1st Show Important Details

Rehearsal Begins: 11:00am Percussion/ 12:00p WInds/Guard

Rehearsal Ends: 3:45pm

Eating

  • Any practice longer than three hours without a built-in meal will include extended breaks for students to rest. Students can bring light snacks to eat during this time.
  • Students will have time after practice to eat late lunch/early dinner. Students must bring this from home or have it dropped off. Students are not permitted to leave campus during this time

Deadline to be on Assigned Bus: 5:45p

  • After eating, loading, and changing as necessary

Show Details

  • Since we are performing last at this particular show, we will not have time for students to eat concessions. Moving forward, it is a good idea to provide money to students so they can grab concessions between our performance and awards.

  • When we have time to watch other groups, students will sit as a group on the visitor's side grandstands.

  • Students are not permitted to wander on their own or sit apart from the group.

  • Marching Band contests run very smoothly and down to the minute. Expect FC to enter the field promptly at the listed performance time.

  • Students must ride the bus to and from the show site unless a parent note is provided to Ms. Nason or Mr. Lemon

    • DO NOT give parent notes to any other staff member.

  • Once we return to FCHS, students will be dismissed once all equipment has been properly stored.

WINDS/PERCUSSION
: Read the "Important Reminders" section for required performance attire.

ADDITONAL UNIFORM INFORMATION

UNIFORM REQUIREMENTS

Winds/Percussion

All members of the winds and percussion section will need black bike or compression shorts and a black compression shirt. These should be form fitting and will be worn under our bib pants. Links below are examples from several retailers at various price points. All will work just fine.

Amazon

Men's Compression Shorts

Women's Compression Shorts

Again these are various examples from different retailers and at different price points. Any of them will work great.

Hair

All members that have hair that touch the collar of the uniform or longer must put their hair up. When putting the hair up a bun must sit on the top (high ponytail area) of the head so as to not interfere with putting on or removing the shako. The hair should be slicked up with no wispy/flyaway hairs. Gel or hairspray should be used to slick these to the head. Bobby pins and hair ties used must match the students hair color. If you have short hair that does not touch the collar it must be styled and have a neat appearance. Below are you tube tutorials of how to do a bun if you need help/information.

Women's Bun Tutorial

Alternate Bun Tutorial

Make Up

Make up is not required but if a member in the Winds or Percussion Sections chooses to wear makeup it should be a natural palette with warm tones (i.e. browns). Members wearing foundations should keep concealer and foundations away from the neckline to prevent the makeup staining the collar of the costume/uniform. I would recommend using waterproof makeup if possible and a strong setting spray after makeup application so keep the makeup from running. Performers will be working hard and sweating during warm up and during the show and we want to prevent makeup from running.

Jewelry

All jewelry must be removed in costume/uniform unless approved in advance by Ms. Nason or Mr. Lemon. All piercings must be removed to keep with a uniformed look among the ensemble. Piercings will remain out for the entirety of the time while members are in costume/uniform. Clear stoppers are acceptable to replace piercings while in uniform.

Nails
Nails must be a neutral/natural color. Nails at excessive lengths may be required to be cut down or removed (acrylics)

Uniform Care

  • Please make sure your costume/uniform jacket is always folded neatly when not being worn.
  • Shakos should be either worn or carried with shako resting on the forearm and brim facing forward in hand.

Water is the only consumable allowed while in costume/uniform.

Guard

  • Full Uniform
  • Show hair
  • Show makeup
  • Undergarments
    • Ladies- Bodysuit, nude underwear, nude convertible bra
    • Gentlemen- Bodysuit, Dance belt

  • Use product while doing hair
  • Lots of bobby pins
  • Apply more product/spray after hair is complete
  • Members with thin/fine hair should use texturizing power/product along with their hair spray.

**HAIR MUST NOT FALL OUT DURING THE SHOW. IF YOU THINK YOU HAVE ENOUGH HOLDING PRODUCT/PINS…. USE MORE!

Hosted Events Volunteer Sign Up Now Available

It is time to sign up to volunteer for the five events we are hosting this school year. These events make up approximately 20% of our budget each year. These are the events that are part of the Volunteer Commitment option on the Marching Band Financial Agreement. Marching Band families enrolled in the volunteer option plan payment plan are required to work four (4) total shifts for events hosted by the Franklin Central Band Program. Each shift is approximately 6 hours in length. Exact shift times will be determined closer to each event date. If you are unable to fulfill your event volunteer commitment shifts, a charge of $100 per shift will be assessed. Volunteers must be 18 or older. Current students are not able to fulfill this requirement.

All volunteers must have a Safe Visitor background check on file with FTCSC to work any event. The background check costs $16 and is good for 2 years. If you are unsure whether you have a current background check on file, please email Amanda Gaiser: secretary@fcbands.org

The Events:

RaiseRight™

Fundraising for YOU - all year round! No selling, no spending extra time or money… just everyday purchases turned into earnings. All of the money you earn goes straight to your student’s band account to use toward their band fees.

How does it work?

Rebates earned are added to your RaiseRight account. Once a month the RaiseRight Coordinator sends a rebate report to the Treasurer so the funds can be applied to your student’s band account. This will show as a credit line item on your monthly statement. The easiest way to earn is by downloading the RaiseRight app on your phone so you can purchase on the go!

You can also use an "online shopping" tool via RaiseRight to stack your earnings. Please note, credits from taking advantage of the "Online Shopping" tool will take longer to show in their booster credits. RaiseRight will not pay out online shopping credits until 45 days after purchase to assure no item have been returned.

Who can use it?

Any parent, grandparent, aunt, uncle, cousin, friend, or neighbor can sign up for an account to help raise money for your student. They don’t have to live in Indianapolis in order to use it, either! With the convenience of the RaiseRight app, out of town friends and relatives can help you earn too!

How much can I earn?

Really, that is up to you! The more you use, the more you earn. Many of our families have offset their fees by as much as HALF just by using RaiseRight.

More information can be found on the FC Bands website at RaiseRight Fundraising.

Sign up now at raiseright.com after getting the enrollment code by emailing raiseright@fcbands.org.
