From the Desk of the Principal. . .

Parent Teacher Conferences are the week of October 16. If you have not already scheduled your conference please reach out to your child's teacher.

Thank you to all of you who showed up for Muffin Madness. What a great way to start the day! Our next family engagement activity is our Family Literacy Night. This is scheduled for November 14. This event will start at 5 and end at 6. Families who come will get to participate in a fun literacy activity. We will be in the gym for this event. In December we are planning a movie and cookie decorating event-details will be released in November's Anderson Newsletter!

Art Exchange Project

The MSU 4H China Art Exchange Kit has arrived from China. Mrs. Berry is using the kit with her art students. They are starting to look at visual letters from K-6 students from China and analyze the artwork. Our students will then start to create their own visual letters to be sent to China. Many students across Michigan participate in this unique program.

Popcorn Fridays

Popcorn Fridays are back. Forms should arrive home this week. We will be doing 8 popcorn Fridays. $4.00 will buy your child a bag of popcorn for every Popcorn Friday.

Book Fair

The PTO is sponsoring a book fair during Parent Teacher Conferences. The book fair will be open on Wednesday and Thursday October 18 and 19 from 4-6. Additionally, the book fair will be open on Friday October 20 from 12-2.

Attendance

Our attendance policy has been updated. Below is the new policy. Do not hesitate to reach out if you have questions.

ATTENDANCE POLICY

All absences will be recorded as Contacted (parent phone call/note, medical/court note) or Not Contacted (no parent phone call or note). The first 5 Contacted Absences will be considered as excused (see below). Failure to report an absence by telephone or provide a note on the day the student returns to school will result in the absence being recorded as Not Contacted and Unexcused.

EXCESSIVE ABSENCES FROM SCHOOL

Any student who is absent from school for more than 5 days between the first day of school and January 31st or between February 1st and the last day of school (please note: the 5 day limit will be “reset” on February 1st each year) is required to present a current medical excuse/formal documentation for each absence thereafter in order for the absence to be recorded as excused. The administration will follow Branch County Truancy guidelines regarding chronic absences/extensive history of absenteeism for students with excessive absences. This process may include working with a truancy officer and/or a referral to the County Prosecutor.
