A Welcome Note From The Principal

Dear John Muir Families,

Welcome to the 2026–2027 school year, as well as, the first edition of The Viking Village! Each week, I'll use this space to share celebrations, important reminders, upcoming events, and a little glimpse into what is happening around John Muir.

As we begin our year together, I am excited about the opportunity to build a strong school community where our students feel safe, supported, challenged, and most importantly -- like they belong. I am looking forward to a wonderful year with our Vikings!

I hope you and your family had a restful, enjoyable summer. It is my pleasure to welcome back our returning students and families and extend a warm greeting to those joining our Viking Village for the first time.

Together, we will continue providing a safe, welcoming, and supportive learning environment where every Viking is challenged to reach their full potential. I encourage you to stay engaged by monitoring your student's progress through the Parent Portal, communicating with teachers, and participating in school events throughout the year.

Thank you for your continued trust, partnership, and unwavering support. I am honored to serve as your principal and look forward to year of learning, growth, and celebrating the incredible accomplishments of our students.

Together, let's make the 2026–2027 school year our best yet!

In Service,
Mrs. Randolph

Dismissal Procedures for the 2026-27 School Year.

John Muir Families,

As we begin the new school year, I want to share the plan for our dismissal procedures.

First and foremost, the safety of our students is our top priority. I realize these procedures may look different from previous years, and I appreciate your patience and cooperation as we make this transition. Our goal is to create a dismissal process that is safe, organized, and as efficient as possible for all of our Vikings.

Please refer to the attached dismissal map as you review the procedures below.

Bus Riders

Students riding a bus home will be dismissed through the back doors of the school. Buses will load on the playground side of the building. Please see the bus route indicated on the dismissal map.

Car Loop

Students being picked up through the car loop will be dismissed through the front doors.

To help us keep the car loop safe and moving efficiently, we ask families to:

  • Please do not enter the school parking lot before 3:15 p.m. Arriving earlier can block the lane needed for our buses and slow the dismissal process once it begins.

  • Remain in your vehicle while waiting for your child.

  • Form one lane behind the buses as indicated on the dismissal map.

  • Once your child is safely inside your vehicle, please exit using the middle lane of the parking lot until all buses have departed.

  • Please follow the directions of staff members assisting with dismissal.

Walkers

ALL students who are designated as walkers will be dismissed through the side door.

If your child is a walker, please do not park in the school parking lot, exit your vehicle, and walk up to pick up your child. Families wishing to use the school parking lot for dismissal should follow the car-loop procedure and remain in their vehicles.

Working Together for a Safe Dismissal

I know that any change in routine takes some adjustment, and the first several days may take a little longer as students, staff, and families become familiar with the new procedures. We will continue to monitor the process and make adjustments if needed, but student safety will remain at the center of every decision we make.

Your patience, cooperation, and attention to these procedures will make a tremendous difference. When we all follow the same dismissal plan, we can keep traffic moving while making sure every child gets where they need to go safely.

Thank you for partnering with us and helping us keep our Vikings safe!

Reminders for Students Reminders for Students

The Viking Way

Vikings,

Every day, we have an opportunity to show what it means to be a John Muir Viking. We expect every student to come to school RESPECTFUL, RESPONSIBLE and READY to LEARN!

Be on time and present, come prepared for every class, and give your best effort. Listen actively, participate in discussions, complete your work, and take ownership of your learning. Just as importantly, treat your classmates, teachers, and staff with kindness and respect and help create a school where everyone feels safe and welcomed.

Let’s continue to build a school community where Viking Pride is reflected in our choices, our actions, and our commitment to excellence every day!
