Dear Janney Community,

We are grateful for the recent stretch of โ€œwarmerโ€ weather this week and are happy to see the snow and ice beginning to melt. It has been wonderful to return to outdoor recess and enjoy our shared outdoor spaces again. In the spirit of making lemonade out of lemons, we will continue taking advantage of outdoor time whenever conditions allow. Please continue to send students dressed for outdoor play, including warm layers, hats, gloves, and sturdy shoes or boots. Outdoor time remains an important part of our studentsโ€™ day, even during the winter months.

We look forward to welcoming families on Wednesday for our annual Math Night for students in grades 3-5 from 6-7pm. Join us to discover ways to support your childโ€™s learning at home. Families will learn the strategies students use in class and how those strategies develop from 3rd through 5th grade. This session will focus on multiplication and division and will provide practical tools you can use right away. Childcare will be provided, and we encourage families to use the link to sign-up.

Wednesday is also a special milestone for students in grades K-5 as we celebrate the 100th day of school. This moment gives us an opportunity to reflect on how much students have learned and grown since the start of the year.

Finally, please mark your calendars for our next school-wide Spirit Day. On Thursday, February 27, 2026, in celebration of Black History Month, we will have a school-wide dress-down day. Students may choose to wear red, black, or green, or dress as an African American Hero they wish to honor.

Thank you, as always, for your partnership and support!

With Gratitude,

Principal Singh

๐Ÿ€ Janney Dominates in Season Opener

Talk about making a statement! The Janney Elementary boysโ€™ basketball team kicked off their season in spectacular fashion, securing a commanding 36โ€“4 victory over Brightwood Elementary.

From the first whistle, Janneyโ€™s offense was a well-oiled machine. Their ball movement and sharp shooting left little room for the opposition to breathe, turning the season opener into a clinical display of teamwork and precision. While the defense held firm, it was the outstanding offensive rhythm that defined the game, proving that Janney is a force to be reckoned with this year. If this performance is a preview of whatโ€™s to come, itโ€™s going to be an exciting season for the Janney community. Go Jaguars!

๐Ÿ† Donโ€™t Delay, Buy Your Auction Tickets Today!

Join us Beneath the Canopy on March 28th by purchasing your ticket today! Grab your Advanced Canopy tickets for a kid-free evening of food, drink, music, and wild bids! Lucky for you, Patron Tickets are still available. This generous option provides an auction ticket (at the Early Bird rate), exclusive access to a Patron Party (Feb 27), and a $100 tax-deductible donation.

Live Auction Donations Needed!

Our auction volunteers are still looking for a few special, high-value items for the live auction. Many of the most exciting donations come directly from our school community (often from families who donโ€™t even realize what they have to offer!) Think vacation or weekend homes, access to sporting or entertainment events, or one-of-a-kind experiences you could access or arrange. These items make a huge impact on our fundraising efforts and directly support our students. If you might have something to contribute (or even an idea youโ€™d like to run by us), the Auction team would love to hear from you.

Host a Janney Parent Party!

Still more questions about hosting (or buying) a Janney Parent Party?? We created a Janney Party 101 Planner to get you those answers! Spoiler: Itโ€™s an easy way to support Janney while also having a blast with fellow Janney parents (or dropping your kids off). Learn more about (co)hosting or attending one! For questions or more info, contact Jenn Lucey.

Want to learn more or help with the Auction, but don't know where to begin?
Reach out to the Auction team at auction@janneyschool.org anytime to learn more about ways to support or ask questions about the auction. The Auction is run entirely by parent volunteers and there are dozens of opportunities. Right now the Decor team could use some help with purchasing items from the Amazon wish list or volunteering for crafts to build our canopy! Email Libby Deal to pick up materials.

Wine Wednesday: Donate a Bottle of Wine!

Weโ€™re bringing back Wine Wednesdays! While this icy winter makes us want this to be cozy get-together, itโ€™s a call to action. The Auction volunteers are building a wine cellar to raise money for Janney and every bottle counts. Please donate a bottle or two of wine (priced $20 or higher)! Bottles can be dropped off any day at 4426 42nd St NW, right across from Janney!

๐ŸŽญ 5th Grade Musical Updates

The 5th Grade Musical is one of Janneyโ€™s most beloved traditions, and this yearโ€™s show is Shrek the Musical KIDS, taking place May 1 & 2. We still need volunteers to help bring it to life!

You donโ€™t need to be a 5th grade parent to help โ€” weโ€™d love anyone whoโ€™s excited to jump in, whether you enjoy building, painting, organizing, or cheering students on behind the scenes.

๐ŸŽฅ Janney's Annual Family Movie Night

Save the date for Janney's Family Movie Night on March 11.

More details to come, but as you are bookmarking this on your calendars, we could use your help...

Are you available to volunteer that night? We need you!

Do you have new or very gently used toys, games, books, scarves, jewelry, or spa essentials we can use to make baskets for our raffle? (Think about the holiday gift you KNOW you will never use or that your kid still hasn't played with!) We need you! Please reach out to amy.blaszyk@gmail.com to donate time or treasures. Can't wait to see you there!

๐Ÿ‘Ÿ Janney 5K & Fun Run โ€“ Looking Ahead to Next Year

As we begin planning for next school year, weโ€™re hoping to identify additional parent leaders who may be interested in helping carry forward the Janney 5K & Fun Run - a long-standing and much-loved Janney tradition.

This yearโ€™s event was successful thanks to a dedicated group of volunteers. However, the loss of a significant grant that previously helped offset major event costs means there is increased financial pressure on the 5K going forward. To remain viable, the event will require continued strong parent leadership, particularly around sponsorships, partnerships, and creative approaches to managing costs.

This is an early, exploratory ask. If you might be interested in learning more about helping lead or shape the future of the 5K, please reach out to Jennifer Records or Beth Kuhnhein.
