R.O.A.R. Expectations
You'll notice something new around Centennial this year! We are introducing R.O.A.R. as our school-wide behavior expectations. R.O.A.R. gives our students four clear expectations for how we show up, treat one another, and contribute to a safe and positive learning environment:
R - Ready to Learn
O - Own Your Actions
A - Act Safely
R - Respect Our Community
We will be teaching and practicing these expectations with students throughout the year so that everyone understands what R.O.A.R. looks and sounds like in different areas of our school. We are also replacing Cub Coupons with R.O.A.R. Tickets. Just like before, students can be recognized for demonstrating our school-wide expectations and making positive choices. We are excited to see our Cubs R.O.A.R.!

Attendance Matters
CUBS ARE SHOWING UP!
Way to go, Cubs! Last week, 92% of our students were at school 90% or more of the time! That’s something to celebrate!
A big shout-out to our Kindergarten Cubs! They led the way with an amazing 92% of students meeting our attendance goal!
Let’s keep the momentum going, Cubs! Every day at school is a chance to learn, grow, and shine. ✨ Keep showing up and making every day count!
Counselor Corner
This month, our Centennial Cubs learned about peer conflict and ways to solve small problems with friends and classmates.
Students in grades K–2 practiced solving peer conflict scenarios using our Centennial Cub Choice Wheel. Each student also received a Choice Wheel to bring home and share with their grown-ups. Students in grades 3–5 worked in small groups to brainstorm as many ways to solve peer conflict as they could. They then collaborated as a class to combine their ideas and create a list of at least five strategies for handling peer conflict.
At Centennial, we will continue encouraging students to use these strategies to work through small problems with their peers. Our goal is to build students’ confidence in their ability to solve everyday problems, communicate with others, and navigate friendships successfully.
Families, you can help, too! 💚 When your child comes home with a small peer problem, encourage them to think about the strategies they have learned and what they might try before an adult steps in. Of course, we always want students to seek adult help when a problem feels too big, continues to happen, or involves bullying or safety concerns.
Together, we can help our Centennial Cubs grow into confident problem-solvers who know how to look out for one another! 🐻🌲

🎄 Holiday Support at Centennial Elementary
If your family may need support this holiday season, please reach out to me. November 6th is the deadline to request assistance. Applying by this date gives me the most time possible to connect your family with available community resources.
Because resources are extremely limited this year, we kindly ask that only families experiencing extreme financial hardship apply for holiday support. Please understand that submitting a request does not guarantee that we will be able to match your family with a sponsor or provide assistance.
If your family is in a position to provide a gift or support a family in need, we would be incredibly grateful for your help! Your generosity can make a meaningful difference for a Centennial family during the holiday season.
If you would like to submit a request for holiday support or provide support for a student this holiday season email me at: savila@bethelsd.org
Weekend Food Program:
Please complete the following digital form if your family is experiencing significant financial hardship and needs assistance with weekend food.
Please understand that completing this form does not guarantee that your family will receive assistance. Each year, supplies and available resources are extremely limited, and we may not be able to fulfill every request. Centennial Elementary, and the Bethel School District, are not responsible for any food illness or allergen your student might encounter in the food bag.
If you have additional questions email Sarah Avila at savila@bethelsd.org

The family center team supports more than 1,000 community members and has provided thousands of dollars in financial assistance for rental, mortgage and utility assistance to local families in need.
It’s an exciting time for the Family Center. They’re reopening this fall after an extensive remodel. Want to learn more? Stop by the Family Center or give them a call at 253-800-6850 or 253-800-6862.

Please make sure to label your child’s clothing with their name so items can be returned quickly. Encourage your child to check the Lost and Found regularly for anything they may have misplaced. Personal Electronic Device Policy
Personal Electronic Devices (PEDs) are NOT allowed to be used during school hours.
• The purpose of having a cell phone at school is for the student and/or guardian to get ahold of each other before or after school.
• PED use is a disruption to the learning environment and are not allowed during school hours. If the student needs to call home, they need to ask an adult to use the phone in the main office.
• If a PED is used, it is subject to progressive discipline:
First, the student will be asked to put it away and not take it out again. A minor write up will happen and guardians will be contacted.
Second, the PED will be held in the front office for the remainder of the day, and the student will get it back at the end of the day. A minor write up will happen and guardians will be contacted.
Third (and any subsequent time), the PED will be held in the office until a guardian can pick it up from the school. A minor write up will happen and guardians will be contacted.
**Students with medical conditions requiring a cell phone have individualized plans**
Native American Education
Your child may be entitled to participate in the Bethel School District Native American Education Program. For each child who is registered on a 506 Eligibility Certification Form, the district receives Federal Title VI funds to pay for academic assistance for Native American children. In order to be counted as part of this program, a 506 form must be filled out by a parent/guardian of the Native American child. When filling out the form, all parts must be completed. It is not required that a student be enrolled in a tribe if the parents or grandparents are registered.
This 506 Form needs to be filled out only one time as long as your child attends Bethel schools. We will keep all information confidential. Forms are available via the link below, on the Title VI website or by calling Rachael Barger at 253-800-2394 or Grace Leatham at 253-800-2393.

Community-backed bond delivers 700,000 square feet of school improvements
With Cedarcrest Middle School students and staff temporarily at the old Bethel High School, demolition crews have cleared the old Cedarcrest site and are already going vertical with the new building. What began as a school modernization has evolved into a complete rebuild, thanks to careful planning and additional state funding secured through our voter-approved 2019 School Construction Bond. It’s one of many projects funded thanks to our community. Since the approval of the 2019 bond, our district has added nearly 700,000 square feet of new or improved space. That represents 249 classrooms! https://www.bethelsd.org/resources/news-article/~board/headlines/post/community-backed-bond-delivers-700000-square-feet-of-school-improvements
