From the Principal's Desk
Hello Little Viking Families,
We are so excited to welcome everyone back to school for the 2025-2026 school year! Every two weeks we will send out this newsletter with a lot of school information. But if you don't have time to read everything, please read the Principal Message at the top! I will summarize the most important things and you can scroll down to get all the smaller details.
Here are a few reminders:
1) Please make sure your child has a snack while at school packed separately from their lunch.
2) Extra Clothes - We have had a few incidents where students have needed a change of clothes but did not have any spares. Please send a change of clothes for your student to be kept at school “just in case.” We don’t have extras, and if your student needs new clothes, a parent will need to bring a set.
3) Next Friday is district-wide Safety Day! All schools in our district will be practicing our building safety drills as well as bus drills. For more information about each of our drills please see our standard response protocol descriptions below.
And finally…
4) Open House/Curriculum night! Please join us at 6:00pm on Wednesday, September 17th, 2025. Details below.
Have a great weekend,
-Mrs. Scanlan

***STANDING ITEMS***
These are items that will always be listed at the bottom of the newsletter for parent reference. This includes: Lunch menus, fee information, school/bus/OBT Park District contact information, and emergency procedures.
All new or updated information is listed above.
School Hours
Attention Parents - School doors open at 7:40 am. There is no staff supervision prior to this time. Classes start at 7:50 am.
Students who come in late find it harder to establish a good morning routine at school. Teachers are beginning instruction and a late student is missing out. Thank you for your assistance in making sure your students arrive to school on time!

Lunch Balances
Overdue Breakfast/ Lunch Balances
Don't forget to check and pay any overdue lunch balances. You can check balances and pay on your parent Skyward account. You can also send cash or check payment to school with your child in a marked envelope with name and what payment is for. The office will then account for the cash or check payment on your student's Skyward.

Standard Response Protocol
Salt Creek District 48 has adopted an emergency protocol response from the I Love U Guys Foundation. This is a program that has been adopted by many of the schools within DuPage County. Over the summer, the administrative team attended training on the protocol and is passing along the training to all staff. We also want to make families aware of the five different protocols so you can be familiar with the language you may hear your child or the school use.
Payments & Fees
In your parent portal in skyward, click on the fee payment tile, then in the far right hand top corner click on the "make online payments" button. This will take you to Revtrak. Make sure to sign up before you try to make payment. Once you can sign in, click the Make a Payment button in the middle of the page. This new service will streamline the payments so you can make a payment or set up recurring payments. This is directly connected to Skyward so you see the money immediately go to your child's account. If you have any questions please email or call your school office.
Preschool Payments: Once in Revtrak you will see in the upper right area an arrow next to SHOP. Click the arrow and pick Preschool in order for you to complete your payment. If you have any questions please email or call the Salt Creek school office.
