Message from the Superintendent Message from the Superintendent

zoom_out_map

Dear AUSD Community,

As the summer days continue to warm up, I hope this message finds you enjoying some well-deserved rest and relaxation. The 2023-24 school year concluded just three weeks ago, marking the end of another chapter of growth, learning, and achievement. We had a wonderful time celebrating with our graduates, retirees, and others who marked major milestones and achievements. With deep gratitude, I want to extend my appreciation to everyone who contributed to another outstanding year.

I hope you will find ways to recharge this summer, whether you take a family vacation, enjoy a day in the park, or just sleep in each morning. Moments like this are essential for our emotional and mental well-being.

Although our team will find time to slow down a bit during the summer, many are also hard at work with summer school, construction and facilities projects, enrollment and planning, and professional development sessions. Believe it or not, our team is already focused on the new school year and preparing for a smooth opening on August 13th.

We will keep you updated with important information and reminders as the new school year approaches. In the meantime, enjoy your summer, stay safe, and make the most of these precious summer days.

Warm regards,

Denise R. Jaramillo, Ed.D.

Superintendent

Congratulations to the Class of 2024! We are excited for our promoted eighth graders to move up to high school and know they will accomplish many incredible things over the next four years. May 24th was a bittersweet day, as we held three beautiful high school graduation ceremonies at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, and then had to say a fond farewell to our high school seniors. They will be scattered across California and several other states (and countries) as they head off to their various college and career opportunities. We are proud of all they accomplished while they were AUSD students and we know they will continue to make us proud in their future pursuits.

Ramona School continues to utilize their annual Open House to exhibit their students' year-long accomplishments of Project Based Learning (PBL). This beautiful community event gives Ramona students an opportunity to showcase their learning through interactive presentations and displays. In PBL, the school collaboratively determines an essential question for the year. This year’s question was: "How do we foster a community of diverse learners who are self-motivated to explore their passion as a path to building their legacy?"

Congratulations, AUSD Retirees!

We'd like to take a moment to give a special shout-out to the Alhambra USD staff members who retired this year. On Monday, May 13th, the Alhambra Management Association, the Alhambra Teachers Association, and California School Employment Association-Chapter 295 held a join all-district celebration to honor those who have given a lifetime of service to education. We thank them for all they have done for our students, families, and schools, and we are grateful they chose to spend part (or all) of their careers with AUSD! (Please Note: Only those who officially announced their retirement by the reception date were included in the program listed below.)

Induction Celebration

Congratulations to our teachers who completed Year 1 or Year 2 of their Induction program, who celebrated with a beautiful travel-themed culmination celebration on Wednesday, May 16th.

We have an incredible Induction Leadership Team (ILT), who have guided them along the way: Ann Wilson, Diana Han, Deborah Garcia, Monica Hinojos, and Van Duong! ILT is supported by John Scanlan (Assistant Superintendent-Human Services), Stacie Colman-Hsu (Director-Human Services), Monica Yew (Secretary II), and numerous current and retired teachers who serve as mentors as these teachers work to clear their credentials.

Featured Event: South Korean Educators Exchange (Inaugural Team) Featured Event: South Korean Educators Exchange (Inaugural Team)

AUSD continued its partnership with EduPeoples as the inaugural group of AUSD educators traveled to South Korea earlier this summer for an educator exchange program. In addition to learning about the South Korean culture and educational system, the delegation also taught lessons at two schools, participated in professional discussions with fellow educators, and visited sites of historical and cultural significance. This partnership has already enabled AUSD to host Korean educators and students in our schools, and provided opportunities for our high school students to travel to South Korea. We are grateful to Jaden Choi and EduPeoples for always being such gracious hosts!

The inaugural AUSD team for this summer professional learning opportunity were: Larry Ambriz, Ralph Hernandez, Monica Hinojos , Stephanie Johnston, May May Lee , Huey Lien, Calvin Ly, Janice Phan , Page Phillips, I Tran, Marine Wei, and Susie Young.

They will share more about their adventure at the June 25th Board of Education Meeting.
