The Help me write feature in Google Docs uses Gemini AI to draft new content (emails, letters, posts, guides) and rewrite existing text (shorten, elaborate, change tone, bulletize, summarize).
  • How to start: In a Doc, click where you want text, then on the left select Help me write, enter clear instructions (e.g., “Write a thank-you email after an interview”), and click Create.

  • Draft new content: Use prompts to generate first drafts of poems, how‑to guides, event plans, social captions, formal letters, and more. You can edit your prompt and regenerate until it’s close to what you need, then click Insert.

  • Rewrite existing text: Select text and click Help me write to quickly:

    • Switch tone (Formal / Casual)
    • Summarize or Shorten for brevity
    • Elaborate to add details
    • Rephrase in different words
    • Bulletize into a list
    • Use Custom to apply your own refinement prompt

Gemini in Slides helps you generate images, create and edit slides, summarize decks, and write or rewrite content directly in Google Slides.

  • How to start: In a Slides presentation, click Ask Gemini at the top right to open the side panel and choose a suggested prompt or type your own.
  • Generate images: Use Tools → Create images in the Gemini panel, describe what you want, then preview, refine, and Insert the image into your slide. Images are for use inside Slides only.

  • Create new slides: Click Help me create a slide (from the toolbar, Insert, or Slide menu). Gemini generates a slide using your current theme; you can Insert it, Retry for a new version, or refine with a new prompt.

  • Write slide text: Select a title or body text box and choose Write a title or Help me write. Gemini generates text in the side panel that you can Insert into the selected box.

  • Summarize and expand content: With an existing deck open, Gemini can summarize the presentation, draft new slides (e.g., celebration, next steps, proposals), and rewrite or extend your content on request.
