Thanks to all who were able to join us for our Program of Studies Presentation last evening. We hope you found it informative and helpful.
If you were unable to attend, or would like to review the materials, we have included copies below and will also have them posted to our website.
Please do not hesitate to reach out if you need help with this process.
Grade Eight Civics Projects
On Wednesday, March 4th, Grade eight social studies classes hosted a range of "community experts" to help students learn more about the topics they chose for their upcoming student-led civic action projects. Students asked questions of community leaders from the Massachusetts State Legislature, Town of Hingham, and the Hingham Public Schools, allowing them to explore topics such as increasing voter turnout, preventing wildfires, and providing services for veterans.
Thank you to all of our community experts for donating their time and talents for our students.
Madame Weiss' French Students Say "Adieu" to Winter and "Bon Jour" to Spring!
Madame Weiss' classes celebrated the end of Carnival this week with the burning of Monsieur Carnaval! This tradition is a way to say goodbye to winter and usher in spring! Madame Weiss is proud of her students who worked hard and learned some pretty tough material all in French!
A special thank you to Jeff Saunders of the Hingham Fire Department who helped keep students safe during this special celebration!
That's Debatable!
The 8th grade Social Studies department is conducting a round robin tournament regarding the second most important amendment after the 1st Amendment. All students are engaged in 5 minute speed debates with every other team in their class and we will eventually end up with a class champion debate team. Ask your student which Amendment they view to be the second most important.
Girls on the Run
Girls on the Run is coming back to HMS this spring!
Girls will meet twice a week for 8 weeks to have fun, build friendships, get active, and learn important life skills.
Practices will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:15–3:45, starting on March 31st. Please note that you must have your own ride home.
Online registration is now open!
Students can see Mrs. Ciocca or Mrs. vonFreymann with any questions.
After we all finished digging out from the blizzard of '26, a group of eighth grade French students visited Quebec City from February 26th-28th. They learned about Quebec's history and culture, and had a chance to practice their French!
We would like to thank World Language teachers Madame Swearingen, Madame Ford, STEM Teacher Mr. Ciolkosz, and Assistant Superintendent Mrs. Pollard for organizing and chaperoning this incredible learning experience.
The cast of NEWSIES is getting ready to make headlines at HMS! Students are hard at work, preparing for performances on April 15th and 16th!
Stay tuned for a link to buy your tickets soon!

Antique Show at HMS
The Antiques Fair at HMS is one of the HHS Green Team’s main fundraisers. It helps support our annual activities, as well as one-time initiatives such as installing bottle-filling stations and raised garden beds at schools. We are currently working to fund bringing back composting to the HHS lunchroom. The Fair is a fun event to poke around with a friend- you never know what reclaimed treasures you’ll find! Show the coupon here to save $1 on admission and help us raise money for sustainability initiatives.

2026 Hingham Youth Track & Field Program
It's that time of year and we are accepting registrations for the 2026 Track & Field season!
Dating back to 2021, we have had nearly 600 middle school students participate in at least one season of the Hingham Youth Track program.
We are looking for 2-3 additional adults to help coach this program going forward. If you are interested, please email us at hinghamyouthtrack@gmail.com.
ABOUT THE PROGRAM:
Practices are held at HHS twice weekly and led by a Head Coach, parent Volunteer Coaches and a select group of HHS students who run at the high school. This is one of our favorite things about the program, because it provides a leadership opportunity for HHS athletes, as well as a chance for middle school participants to get to know some HS athletes.
During the Spring Youth Track season, participants have the opportunity to compete against athletes from other towns in various running & field events, such as . . .
- Running events: sprints, mid and distance from 100 M run to 1 mile, relays
- Long & High Jump
- Throwing: Discus, Javelin and/or Shot Put
