Wiggin Street Parent Update
November 22, 2024
Better Together
Dear families,
We had an interesting week with the fog delay on Wednesday and the cold weather settling in with snow. We are counting down the days to Thanksgiving Break. Remember that we do not have school Wednesday, November 27th -December 2nd. We will see everyone back on Tuesday, December 3rd.
We are gratefull fo all of you! Thank you for sharing your students with us each day and the support that you give our teachers that work tirelessly to mmet all students' needs each day. Hopefully this holiday brings you joy as you spend more time as a family.
Best wishes,
Christy Grandstaff
Winter Weather
Please remember that students will go outside on days where the temperature with wind chill accounted for is 20°f and above. Be sure your child is dressed appropriately for the weather each day. Coats, hats, and gloves are necessary at this time of the year. Boots are required for playing in the snow. If you need assistance with winter outerwear for your child, please contact our school, and we will happily find warm clothes for them.
Important Reminders
Important Notice for K-2nd Grade Parents
Please ensure your child has at least one extra change of clothes in their backpack at all times.
Reminder for All Parents
If your student has come home in different clothes or shoes than what they wore to school, please launder the clothing and return it to the school promptly.
Clothing Donation Request
We are in urgent need of boys' pants in sizes 5/6, 7/8, and 10/12, as well as girls' pants in various sizes. Any donations would be greatly appreciated.
Winter Weather Attire
With the recent change in weather, please ensure your child has proper winter wear, particularly gloves. We have a limited supply remaining. Additionally, please pay close attention to your student's attire to ensure they are dressed appropriately for wet and wintery conditions. Suitable coats and shoes are essential for their comfort and well-being. Thank you for your cooperation.
PTO Corner
Our next Friends of Wiggin Street meeting will be December 3rd at 5:00 pm. Everyone is welcome!
Food for the Hungry
Wiggin Street will be participating in the annual Food for the Hungry drive from November 18-22. Each class will have a collection box. Students can contribute non-perishable food or monetary donations. The Top 10 items needed for our local pantries include Canned meat, Beef stew/hearty soup, Pasta, pasta sauce, instant potatoes, instant rice, Hot/cold cereal, peanut butter, canned fruit & vegetables.
Though non-food donations are welcome, cash donations are encouraged because $1.00 -- donated is equivalent to $4.56 of buying power through the Mid-Ohio Collective. Checks should be made payable to Food For The Hungry. All donations collected in each school will stay in the community in which they were donated. These students are asked to demonstrate the idea that no one is too young to make a difference and that the community is better when we work together!
As in the past, the classroom in each participating school that contributes the highest number of food items per student will be treated to a pizza party sponsored by Psi Iota Xi.
The top donor from each school will be honored in the Food For The Hungry broadcast at the Knox County Memorial Building on Friday, Dec. 13. The students will be recognized on our live video stream at www.mvnu.tv, as well as on 100.9 FM and 13WMVO, with reports given on WNZR and 93.7 the Super Q.
To learn more about FFTH, donate, or find photos, videos, and more, visit www.FoodForTheHungryCares.org. To volunteer with FFTH, call or text Kathy Brechler at 740-398-2408. The 2023 FFTH Live Broadcast will take place on Friday, Dec. 13 at the Memorial Theater inside the Knox Memorial.
Save the Date: December 16th
Run, run, as fast as you can to see our Kindergarten classes perform "The Tale of the Gingerbread Man" play! Students should arrive at 6:00 pm on Dec. 16th to get into their costumes. Parents are welcome at that time to proceed to the gym with the performance beginning at 6:15 pm.
There is also an opportunity for older students to watch the play during their dress rehearsal on Dec. 16th at 3:05 pm.
