Greetings WPS Parents

Happy New Year!! I hope that everyone has had a wonderful holiday and winter break. Myself along with the teachers and staff of WPS have enjoyed having our students back in school this week. Please be reminded that school starts promptly at 7:55 with our tardy bell ringing at 8:05. With that being said parents please make sure that you have your students at school on time. Please be reminded that students that arrive to school after 8:05 need to be signed in at the office by a parent. Thank you for your continued support of Williamston Primary School.

Grade Level and Department NEWS

Kindergarten:

Hi Kindergarten family We want to welcome all our students back from their Christmas break. This has been a great week. Next week we will be discussing Snowman, the Letterland Character: Oo-Oscar Orange, sight words: up, here, was, Number-12, shape-cylinder, and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Please continue to work with your child at home on sight words, blending to make words, numbers and counting to 100. Students need to continue to read every night.

First Grade:

Hello from First Grade! We had a great week back at school. Next week, we will be working with -ng and-nk words and our fiction story for the week is Katy and the Big Snow by Virginia Lee Burton. We will be comparing numbers using symbols (>,<, =). In science, we will continue with our arctic animals unit. Please continue to read and practice sight words daily, as well as study spelling words weekly. Thanks for all you do!

Second Grade:

Greetings from Second Grade! Happy New Year! We are glad to have our students back with us. Next week we will continue to discuss how stories are structured and how the parts of the story work together. In Letterland we will spell words with er, ear, and o and add er to show one more. We will continue working on place value to 1,000 in Math and discuss patterns that affect weather in Science. Please continue to read, study spelling words, and complete homework each night.

Resource:

Library: Kindergarteners are beginning to check out library books as we begin the new year! They will be able to check out a book each week, then trade the book on their library day. Look for a note in their folder with more information about when they come to the library and how to care for their books!

Art: Our awesome little artists have been introduced to a new Element of Art this week: Texture!

Music: Be sure to check out the Music Room website. Pictures and videos are uploaded to share student programs and classroom activities. Students are learning instrument names and playing techniques for new instruments. Multicultural music will be played using hand chimes and the autoharp. A Maori singing and stick game, which was learned earlier this year, will be reviewed.
