From the Principal - A Season of Gratitude and Growth
Hello Riverview Families,
As we close out October and welcome November, I want to take a moment to share how grateful I am for our amazing Riverview community. The past month was full of excitement from fall celebrations to classroom activities and through it all, our students, staff, and families have shown such kindness, teamwork, and school spirit.
November always reminds me of the power of gratitude and connection. Thank you for the countless ways you support our students and staff every day, through your encouragement, volunteering, and partnership. Together, we’re creating a place where every child feels valued, supported, and inspired to grow. Wishing you all a wonderful start to November filled with gratitude, learning, and community.
Sincerely,
Dr. Urban
Riverview Principal

Weekly Shoutouts-We Celebrate Our Discovery Room Team
This week, we are celebrating our amazing Discovery Room staff!
Our special education teachers and paras bring incredible love, commitment, and expertise to every student, family, and staff member they support. Their compassion is unwavering, and they make sure every student gets exactly what they need to be successful. With big hearts, tons of experience, and a true team spirit, they create a welcoming, nurturing, and empowering environment where all students can thrive.
We are so grateful for the dedication and care of our Discovery Room team, they are a dream team, and Riverview is lucky to have them!
Connect, Align, and Grow-Family Connection
ALIGN – Working Toward Shared Goals
At Riverview, alignment means we’re all moving in the same direction — students, staff, and families — to help every child reach their fullest potential. When we share common goals and consistent messages, students feel supported and understand that school and home are on the same team.
How Families Can Help This Week:
Talk with your child about one goal they’re working on at school — maybe improving reading stamina, showing kindness, or mastering a new math skill. Ask how you can help at home and celebrate their progress together. When children see that families and teachers are aligned, their motivation and confidence grow!

New Shawnee Requirements for E-Scooters and Skateboards
Shawnee has new requirements for anyone riding e-scooters, e-skateboards and unicycles. Please let your students know.
The new law requires all e-scooter and e-skateboard riders under the age of 18 to:
Wear a helmet while riding.
Ride only on the sidewalk, not on any street, road or highway.
Riders can cross roadways to get to another sidewalk, at crosswalks.
Riders are required to yield to all vehicles and pedestrians, even if they are trying to cross a street in a marked crosswalk.
School Reminders
Fall Weather Reminder
Fall weather is finally here and as we all know, it can be a bit unpredictable! Please make sure your student is dressed appropriately and prepared for arrival, dismissal, and outdoor recess. As temperatures drop, they may want to keep a sweatshirt at school in case their classroom feels chilly.
It’s also a great time to label coats, hats, and gloves, and remind students to check the Lost & Found if anything has gone missing. Staying prepared helps everyone stay comfortable and ready to enjoy the day!
Attendance & Punctuality Reminders
- Our doors open for students at 8:30 AM, and classroom instruction begins promptly at 8:45 AM.
- Please help remind your child to be in their seat and ready to learn by 8:45—every minute counts, and there is so much exciting learning to be done each day!
- If your child will be absent, please notify both the office and their classroom teacher. Consistent attendance and on-time arrivals help set students up for success.
Connect, Align, Grow
At Riverview, our Connect, Align, and Grow goals aren’t just for school, they thrive when our whole community is part of the journey.
-
Connect: Building strong, trusting relationships between students, staff, and families helps every child feel safe, valued, and ready to learn.
-
Align: Working together—home, school, and community, means students hear consistent messages and expectations wherever they go.
-
Grow: When we nurture curiosity, resilience, and responsibility, students become confident learners and caring citizens who make a difference in our community.
Counselor's Corner
Spotlight on Character: Gratitude
Character Focus: Gratitude
Gratitude is about noticing the good in our lives and appreciating the people, moments, and experiences that make a difference. When students practice gratitude regularly, it helps them feel happier, more positive, and more connected to others.
At home: Encourage your child to pause each day and share one thing they are thankful for, big or small. Expressing gratitude not only lifts their mood but also helps others feel valued and appreciated.
We are so grateful for our Riverview community, for our students, families, and staff, whose care and support make our school a place where every child can thrive!

Nurse Information
We have wonderful nurses available in our front office, so please feel free to call or stop by if you need to:
-
Drop off medications or medication orders
-
Inform us of any new health conditions
-
Provide updated immunization records (especially if your child is new to Riverview)
-
Submit a physical exam form (required if your child is attending a Kansas school for the first time and is 8 years old or younger)
We also recommend keeping a change of clothes in your child’s backpack. Accidents and spills—especially during lunch—are common, and we may not always have extra clothing in the right size.
If you prefer, you may also email our nurses directly:

Visitor Management System
Student and staff safety is always our top priority. Riverview will continue using the Centegix Visitor Management System this year, following district safety guidelines. All visitors must check in through the office with a valid photo ID. The ID will be scanned into the system and a visitor sticker with your photo will be printed. This sticker must be worn and visible at all times while in the building.
For the safety of everyone, no visitor will be allowed in the building without a valid ID. We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we work together to maintain a secure learning environment for our Falcons.
Arrival/Dismissal
Car Loop Reminder
Please remember to have your student’s name clearly displayed during car loop pick-up. Since staff members rotate and substitutes occasionally cover, having names visible before you pull up to the cones helps us quickly identify students and ensure they are ready when you arrive. This small step keeps the process running smoothly and efficiently for everyone. Thank you for helping us keep the process safe, smooth, and speedy for everyone!
Forgot Something? Use Our Drop-Off Table!
For your convenience, we have a Drop-Off Table located just inside the front doors. If your student forgot something, like their lunch, instrument, glasses, or any other classroom item, you can simply buzz in, drop it off, and be on your way. No need to sign in or go through the visitor management system. Just remember to write your student’s name on the sticky notes provided so we can make sure it gets to them quickly. Thank you for helping keep our drop-offs smooth and efficient!
At Riverview we are very safety conscious. Please see the map below for specific arrival/dismissal details.
