Bullying Awareness and Prevention Week! Constable Mussen Visits Bullying Awareness and Prevention Week! Constable Mussen Visits

On November 17th and 18th, Constable Mussen, our school resource officer, visited grade 9 students. As part of Bullying Awareness and Prevention Week, we thought it would be a good time to promote the safe and responsible use of technology. Topics included privacy, having permission to take and share photos, criminal implications for on-line harassment or racist messages, and how to maintain a clean digital footprint. Thanks to Constable Mussen for sharing her expertise!

Parents, please check out the PDF that is attached after the last photo. This document contains great information about Cyberbullying.

Ms. Elsner

Ms. Elsner teaches Science, Music, Drama and Dance to our grade 7 and 8 students. Here are a few fun facts about this energetic teacher, in her own words:

1) I have visited 15 countries;

2) I can speak 3 languages, English, French and Spanish (which I recently learned while in Colombia);

3) I LOVE volleyball (playing and coaching);

4) I have the opportunity to teach every student in the Elementary wing, so my favourite part of my job is getting to know all of my students.

LEP ART LEP ART

Grade 8 Art with Mandalas

Students explored how to create Mandalas, using the seven elements of art, while focussing on a centre point. Mandalas also represented, for students, the importance of being centred as a person. They aim was to bring to life the activities, or likes and dislikes, that keep them balanced in life.

GSA News

From Ms. Dupuis, staff rep for LEP's GSA:

"On Thursday, November 19, Lo-Ellen’s Gender and Sexuality Alliance (GSA) had the pleasure of virtually listening to Vincent Bolt from SACY/ TGInnerselves. Our school’s GSA connected with Espanola High School’s GSA for the guest presentation. Vincent Bolt shared some of his own personal experiences as a trans youth. He also spoke about the Transgender Day of Remembrance which is held annually on November 20. The day is to remember the lives that were lost to anti-transgender violence and to raise awareness about the issues. Thank you to Vincent Bolt and to Espanola’s GSA for hosting this gathering and inviting us to connect virtually."

OFSAA 3km Challenge and the Knights Fitness Accountability Program

Picture of the participants for the OFSAA 3km challenge.

These are some of the participants who are members of the Knights' Fitness Accountability Program. Leena Abdel-Dayem started the program to engage students in physical activity while many activities in schools and in the community have been halted. A new challenge is released each week, and students may participate to earn points and prizes.

With the release of OFSAA virtual challenges, we have even more challenges for students to participate in.
