School Board Monthly Update

Thank you for the opportunity to serve the children, families, and taxpayers of the Upper Darby School District. As part of the School Board communication plan, the Board sends monthly updates to the school community. The information included in these briefs is not intended to be complete and does not replace official Board minutes. Official meeting minutes, agendas, reports, and presentations are available at BoardDocs. Also, the Board meetings are live streamed to the District's Official UDSD Board & Board Committee Meetings YouTube Channel. We welcome you to follow the issues the School Board is considering and to attend meetings to stay informed.

The Board of School Directors would like to welcome our new Supervisor of Transportation, Mr. John-Paul Loggia, to the district. Though new to education, Mr. Loggia has over 12 years of experience in the operations and logistics departments in the sports and entertainment industry. We look forward to supporting him and his team in their work.

Policy 707, Use of School Facilities, has been revised by the board to create “Youth Group” and “Youth Activity” designations that will expand fee exemptions for groups and activities that serve the youth of the district at no or nominal cost. These policy changes will also be reviewed at the October Committee Meeting for discussion and consideration to move forward to a vote at the November Board Meeting.

Superintendent Dr. McGarry and the High School Administration and Athletic Department have introduced this year's theme T-shirt, which is Stronger Together (on the front of the shirt) - PR”ACT”ICE like a Royal (on the back of the shirt). School Board members are your neighbors and are public servants who make decisions that affect all students. Board members are volunteers and have a deep desire to serve children, a strong belief in the value of public education and a deep professional respect for the District staff who serve our children and their families every day. Serving as a School Board Director requires many dedicated hours of service to our community.
