SCIENCE

Mr. Riggs and his 4th and 5th graders had a BLAST with their STEM activity today. The objective: Build a structure that can support the weight of an apple. The challenge: Build the TALLEST structure! So many structures passed the test, the winner came in at almost TWO FEET TALL!

Message from Mr. Tejkl

Always be kind

A full week in the books and what a week it was! Thank you to all of our staff members that continue to give their all and push themselves to be their best for the students and the school. Thank you to all the students for their great energy and enthusiasm they give to their friends, work and activities. Thank you to all of our parents and community members who ask their kids/love ones how school is going, what they enjoy and what they can do to keep doing their best! It takes a village to raise a tribe!

Today's quote to make you think is more of keeping in mind that all go through a rough patch of time in their lives. Each day is a mystery on what will bring and everyone has their own struggles that they go through. We all deal with our struggles in unique ways but some times can get lost in our own head on if we can make it through. We are going to go through bouts with covid, struggles with work/homework/school and we will struggle sometimes with those around us.

One thing we can do is to be kind to those around us. Always. Taking the time to smile, say hello and ask others how you can help with even the smallest tasks. Those little gestures can mean the world to another person. As we progress through this school year, one thing we can do is be kind to others and be that support when needed. Be there for your kids, loved ones and anyone you may come across. Be that guiding light.

Keep pushing and keep reaching to be your best for yourself and those around you.

Quote of the week to make you think:

"Everyone you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about. Be Kind. Always"

- Robin Williams

Sincerely,

Tucker Tejkl

TAILGATE FOR THE COMMUNITY

On August 27th (this Friday), we are holding a free-will donation Burger and Chip night for all community members. You are more than welcome to bring down yourself, your family and all you know to eat, chat and have fun. We can then support our football team as they play at 7pm! Look forward to seeing you all there!

Extra Band Instruments? We will take them!

Doing your fall clean-up? Do you have a band instrument sitting in a closet, in the garage or basement or attic? The Shelby-Rising City Band would be happy to put it in the hands of a band student! We are accepting flutes, clarinets, saxophones, trumpets, French horns, trombones, baritones/euphoniums, tubas, orchestral bells, and Remo-style drum practice pads. Please contact our band director, Ms. Carrie Hansen (chansen@shelby.esu7.org) or bring it to the school office and be sure to leave us your name and address so we can thank you!
