Engage49
September 2025: Engage49
DID YOU KNOW...
- Poor attendance can influence whether children read proficiently by the end of third grade or be held back.
- By 6th grade, chronic absences become a leading indicator that a student will drop out of high school.
- When students improve their attendance rates, they improve their academic prospects and chances for graduating.
- Absences and tardiness can affect the whole classroom if the teacher has to slow down learning to help children catch up.
Every school day counts, and everyone can make a difference: educators, afterschool programs, mayors, businesses, parents… really, everyone! (CDE Attendance and Truancy and Attendance Works).
One of the best strategies to counteract truancy issues, to improve attendance and to increase academic performance is to partner with our families! Please make attendance a priority everyday.
ATTENDANCE MATTERS
Missing a day of school here and there may not seem like much,
but absences add up!
WHEN A STUDENT MISSES 2 DAYS A MONTH...
- they will miss 20 days a year.
- they will miss 20 hours of math over the school year.
- they will miss 50 hours of reading and writing over the school year.
- they will miss half of a year of school by graduation.
COUNT DOWN TO COUNT DAY | OCTOBER 1ST
Count day for education in Colorado is October 1st. Count Day is based on a 1 day membership count in which districts are asked to report all students who are actively enrolled and attending classes through their district on that date. This is how funding is assigned to your child's school. Attendance is CRITICAL all year but especially on 10/1/25. Count me in for COUNT DAY!
WE'RE HERE TO HEAR YOU!
We are eager to hear your voice and understand how we can better support you in facilitating your child's learning journey at home. Your input is invaluable in shaping decisions regarding your child's education, and we are committed to ensuring your questions and suggestions are addressed.
