Florence Sawyer School Happenings
Monday June 10, 2024

Principal's Message
June 10, 2024
Dear Families,
On Thursday night, we will celebrate our eighth graders in their Recognition Night ceremony. On Friday morning, we will introduce our remaining students to their new teachers and classmates in our annual Move up Day event. Prior to Friday's dismissal at 11:30, I will escort our eighth graders through the hallways in both wings, one last time, with our Kindergartners through seventh graders clapping for them. This event, although bittersweet, is one of the things I love about our Preschool through 8th grade format.
In next week's edition of the FSS Happenings, I will share a link to our summer website. The summer website is designed to offer families quick links to teacher welcome letters, supply lists, and summer work.
If I don't get the opportunity to connect with you directly over the course of the week, please know how grateful I am for each and every one of you and for everything you do for your children. Thank you! Thank you for your support throughout this school year. Thank you for ensuring that your children came to school, ready to learn. Thank you for guiding them through their homework, and projects and presentations. Thank you for your partnership! Thank you for a great school year!
Yours in partnership,
Joel Bates,
Principal
Chromebook Return
End of Year Chromebook Returns
All 8th grade students will be returning their Chromebooks at the end of this school year. Students who are attending Nashoba will be issued a new device at the start of their freshman year. Chromebooks, including the charger and case, will need to be returned on Thursday, June 13, prior to attending Recognition Night.
6th and 7th grade students who are moving or transferring out of the district, and will not be attending Florence Sawyer School next year, must also return their Chromebook, case, and charger, to the office prior to the last day of school. Thank you for your cooperation.

News from the Health Offices
Important Announcement from the Health Offices
As another school year ends, we would like to remind you to make arrangements to pick up your child's unused medications (this includes all inhalers, Epipens, and daily medications) by/on the last day of school. District policy prohibits children from transporting medications to or from school, so a parent or guardian should retrieve them by noon on the last day of school. Medications cannot be stored at school over the summer, so any medications left after this day will be destroyed or discarded.
Thank you,
Nurse Karin and Nurse Audra

FSS Robotics Team
The Florence Sawyer Robotics Team had a great spring competition on Wednesday (6/5). 22 returning kids played the FIRST LEGO League Challenge Re-PLAY game from 2020 while the 5 rookies played the custom built Around Bolton game. All learned new tips and tricks, including how to make a LEGO robot climb! This summer, come meet our team at Backyard Bolton or Providence’s WaterFire.
News from Nashoba Regional High School
Nashoba Regional High School Athletics Information
We are excited to have you become a part of the Nashoba Regional High School Interscholastic Athletics Program. Nashoba Athletics is rich in pride and tradition. NRHS offers 50+ teams across 21 sports!
Participating at the high school level requires a greater commitment compared to a club or recreational team. Members of a team are expected to attend all practices and competitions. Weekend practice sessions may vary by sport and should be anticipated. In addition, teams do practice and compete over vacations and many holidays (i.e. Columbus Day, Veterans Day, etc.).
Prior to the start of each season, the high school will host a meeting for students and their parent(s)/guardian(s). These pre-season meetings serve as an opportunity for coaches to provide information about their program, team philosophy, expectations, and more.
The athletics office will send out information via email prior to each season, but we wanted to share information ahead of time for all potential incoming ninth graders.
If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to Tania Rich, Director of Athletics, at trich@nrsd.net
