PHS Library Update
Plymouth High School Library Media Program September 2022
Welcome Back!
I'm excited to welcome you into the library for the 2022-2023 school year and can't wait for you to see some of the changes we've made. We've been hard at work to ensure that the library is set up in an easy to navigate, discoverable way. Checkout the newly generified fiction collection and in shelf displays next time you stop by.
Many of your classes will be requiring Choice Reading. This is one of my favorite things and I would be happy to make suggestions and get some reading/listening suggestions from you! You also have access to eBooks and audiobooks on Sora.
Help Finding a Book for Choice Reading
- Your Librarian is an excellent resource and reading wizard! Be it your school librarian or public librarian they'll be happy to help guide you towards a book that you'll love. That being said, email ME! I'll want to know what the last thing that you listened to, read or watched was and LOVED. That will help me match you up with some solid options.
- Project Lit is a grassroots Twitter movement to push for more diverse and representative reading in young adult literature. Twice a year, they announce the newest list of Project Lit picks by age group and book clubs around the country read and discuss! Check out our chapter on Twitter @ProjectLITPCCS
- Checkout book review sites like School Library Journal, Kirkus, BookRiot!
Media Center FAQs
Why do I have to sign in to the media center? This is best practice and allows us to have a roster of who is in the media center at any given time. This roster would be used in the case of an emergency to account for everyone. Don't have a device on you? There is a paper sign in by the computer at the circulation desk.
Can I check out a book? YES! You're welcome to come by to browse the shelves and checkout whatever you'd like. Anything you see in the displays is up for grabs too - we're not a museum!
Can I return a book? Book Returns are being accepted everyday and can be placed in Book Return slot in the circulation desk.
Can I use a desktop to work/print? Yes. You're welcome to do so anytime throughout the day with a pass from your teacher and after signing in up front. If it's during passing time, you still need to sign in.
Can I come to the Media Center for lunch? Yes and we'd love to see you! You do not need a pass to come down at lunch time. Remember to sign in and clean up after yourself (wipes at the circulation desk).
Resource Alert: Sora
Accessible on any internet enabled device through the Sora App or the web browser, students can utilize their PCCS student account credentials to sign in. Once signed in, students will want to Add a Library and search for the Wayne County School Shared Digital Collection.
For more detailed instructions on how to access Sora, check out their Getting Started guide and/or reach out to your School Librarian.
