Welcome to SEPTEMBER Lieck Families!
Welcome to September Lieck Families!
I wanted to reflect on the STRONG start we’ve had and thank all the families for ALL of your support.
The first few weeks have been incredibly positive, thanks to the help of our students, staff, and of course, YOU, our supportive parent community! Your involvement and encouragement play a crucial role in creating a thriving educational environment, and we deeply appreciate all that you do!!
We are officially in Week 4 and here are some of the highlights to help keep our parents informed:
Academic & Learning Updates
- Student Assessments: Our K–5 students are almost finished with the beginning-of-year MAP Math and Reading assessments. These assessments give teachers valuable information about baseline performance and help guide goal-setting for the year. Early childhood students will take a different assessment later in the year that is more developmentally appropriate for them.
- Reading at Home: We encourage all students to read at least 20 minutes every night. This simple routine has a powerful impact on vocabulary development, fluency, and overall academic success.
- Math & Literacy Concepts: Each week, classroom teachers introduce new literacy and math concepts that often serve as the building blocks for future learning. Please check in with your child’s teacher to see what skills are being covered this week and how you can support learning at home.
📚 Introducing Texas Bluebonnet Learning Math! We are excited to introduce Texas Bluebonnet Learning Math as our new K–5 math curriculum this school year! This high-quality, Texas-aligned curriculum provides students with engaging opportunities to build strong mathematical thinking, problem-solving skills, and conceptual understanding. Students will be encouraged to explain their thinking, use math vocabulary, make connections, and apply their learning to real-world situations.
Families can support learning at home by asking questions such as, “How did you solve it?” “Can you show me another way?” and “Why does your strategy work?” Together, we can help our Lieck Lions grow as confident mathematicians! 🦁➕📈
- Enrichment & Intervention: Every morning from 8:00–8:30am, we have a campus-wide intervention block. During this time, students work on targeted skills to close gaps or extend their learning through more rigorous and challenging concepts.
- Progress Reports: Families can expect progress reports to go home around the 4th–5th week of each grading period. These provide a snapshot of how your child is doing and keep you informed of their growth and areas for improvement.
SEL Development
- Enhancing Social and Emotional Development: We will prioritize creating a nurturing and inclusive environment where every student feels valued, supported, and empowered to grow both academically and personally. Every classroom has a SEL area that focuses on the social emotional needs of students. Often referred to as the "Calming Corner", we are grateful to our counseling team for ensuring each classroom has the necessary calming tools to manage a variety of emotions.
School Home Partnership
- Strengthening School-Home Connections: Building a strong relationship with our school community is vital. We will work diligently to maintain open lines of communication and ensure that parents and guardians are actively engaged in their child’s educational journey. Don't forget to join your child's teacher's Class Dojo to stay connected. Fall conferences start in late October to go over your child's progress. Don't hesitate to reach out to your child's teacher if you would like to setup a conference call or meeting sooner.
We believe that a strong partnership between school and home is key to achieving these goals. Your feedback, involvement, and collaboration are invaluable as we work together to support our students’ success. We encourage you to stay connected, participate in school events, and reach out with any questions or concerns.
Progress Reports: (Sept.11)
It is almost time for progress reports! All students PK-5 will receive a progress report for each grading period. The purpose of the Progress Report is to inform parents of the student’s current grades in class and will inform parents of any unsatisfactory work at the time of the report. Progress reports for students in 1st-5th grades should be viewed in the Home Access Center (HAC) by the parent or guardian. Any questions should be directed to the child’s teacher. If a parent/guardian would like a paper copy of their child’s progress report and/or report card, this may be obtained by contacting the child’s school. Students in Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten will receive a paper copy of their child’s progress report which should be signed and returned the day after it is received. These reports will be issued on the fourth or fifth week of each grading period. Progress reports may also be issued any time a student’s progress becomes unsatisfactory.
Safety Drills continue throughout the year:
Safety drills are conducted to prepare schools for emergency situations. Each campus has procedures specific to that campus. These procedures are communicated to appropriate staff and practiced throughout the year.
🚗 Arrival & Dismissal Reminder
To help keep traffic moving safely and efficiently during dismissal, we kindly ask all families to please use the designated parking areas rather than parking in or along the car line. Parking in the car line can cause backups and delays for other families. We appreciate everyone’s help in following our dismissal procedures, keeping the car line moving, and ensuring a safe and smooth experience for all of our Lieck Lions! Thank you for your partnership and patience.
🌞 Morning Recess Has Begun!
Morning Recess began on August 31st, and our Lieck Lions are off to a great start! 🦁💙
Morning recess provides students with an opportunity to move, socialize, and reset before beginning their school day. Research and experience show that opportunities for physical activity and play can help students improve focus, self-regulation, mood, and readiness to learn. We are excited to provide this positive start to the day for our students!
Morning Recess is from 7:15–7:35 a.m.
If your child needs to eat breakfast in the cafeteria, we ask that they eat breakfast first before going to morning recess. Students will not be permitted to go to breakfast after morning recess has ended, so please plan accordingly.
Students who attend morning recess will wait in the cafeteria for their duty teacher. Once the duty teacher arrives, students will be escorted to their designated recess areas.
🦁 Thank You, Lieck Families!
A huge thank you to our Lieck families for supporting our Bye-Bye Zones! Our students are doing a fantastic job walking independently to class, and we are so proud of the confidence and independence they are building each morning.
As a reminder, we kindly ask families to say goodbye at the Bye-Bye Zone and allow your child to walk to class independently. This practice helps our students build independence while also supporting a safe, calm, and strong instructional environment for all of our Lieck Lions.
We also understand that every child is different. If your child needs additional support transitioning to class, please do not hesitate to reach out to our front office. We are here for you and happy to help make the transition successful for your child.
Need to speak with your child’s teacher? We are always happy to partner with you! Rather than stopping the teacher during arrival, please feel free to send a message through email or ClassDojo, or reach out to schedule a conference at a time when the teacher can give you their full attention. Thank you for partnering with us and helping our Lions start each day strong! 💙🦁
Thank you once again for all of your support. We look forward to a month ahead, filled with growth, learning, and meaningful connections.
Respectfully,
Ms. Jessica Garza

VATRE and NISD School Bond 2026
While NISD has asked voters to approve bond issuances in the past to address aging facilities, it has never put a VATRE on the ballot. So, what is the difference?
While a VATRE and bond election are often discussed together, they serve different purposes.
Voter-Approval Tax Rate Election (VATRE)
A VATRE is designed to provide additional funding for a school district’s day-to-day operations. If approved by voters, the additional revenue would support the district’s contingent (pay) employee compensation plan for this current school year, and help reduce the district’s budget deficit.
Bond Election
A bond election is different from a VATRE. Bonds are used to fund major, long-term capital investments in facilities, infrastructure, technology, and other large-scale projects.

Drop Off and Dismissal
Parents, you are welcome to walk your child to class during the first two days of school however effective Day 3 our staff will guide your child to their classroom thereafter. You can drop off your child curbside or at the door and our staff will take over from there.
Additionally at dismissal, we highly encourage for families to remain in their vehicle at front pick-up to avoid unsafe, unnecessary crowding. For our "walk-up" parents, we will continue to use the side areas as waiting areas and we will bring your child to you.

Parents: Access Your Child’s State Assessment Scores
Your child’s state assessment score history is available 24/7 through Northside ISD’s Home Access Center (HAC) where attendance and grades are also available. Learn more about your child’s assessment results, including how your child answered each question, and find personalized resources to support learning at home by following these steps:
Udpate Your Child's Immunizations
Texas law requires all public school children to have current immunizations to attend class. Northside ISD encourages parents to have their children immunized before the first day of school.
For more information please visit https://www.nisd.net/schools/health/vaccinations
A Word from the Nurse
The school nurse does not diagnose illnesses but takes notes of the symptoms and notifies the parent/guardian of the observations. If a child becomes ill or injured at school, the student will be assessed and given first aid, and the parent/guardian will be notified if the severity of the injury or illness warrants such action.
Children should be kept at home when ill and are expected to be free of fever (temperature less than 100.0° F) and free of communicable diseases in order to attend school. In accordance with the Texas Administrative Code, students are required to be excluded from school until fever free for 24 hours, without the use of fever-reducing medications. The Texas Department of State Health Services defines fever as a temperature of 100.0°F or greater. This is important for the health of the child and for the health of all children at the school.
