PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Dear Westwood Elementary Families,

We hope you enjoyed a restful and joyful winter break with family and loved ones. As we welcome students back to campus tomorrow, we want to thank you for your continued partnership and support.

Looking back on the past year, we have many reasons to celebrate. Our students improved on the spring CAASPP testing in both ELA and Math, and Westwood is one of only a few schools that performed above the district average while showing growth in both areas. We also saw progress in overall attendance.

These accomplishments reflect the hard work and dedication of our staff and teachers, as well as the support of our parents—thank you for all you do to help our students succeed. While we are encouraged by these achievements, we also recognize areas where we can continue to grow. As we begin the new year, we will have a renewed focus on the importance of regular attendance to support every student’s learning.

Beginning next week, we will share important information about attendance and how it supports success at Westwood. Please be on the lookout for these communications in the weeks ahead.

We look forward to seeing our students back at school tomorrow and starting a strong second half of the year together. We also thank PUSD Maintenance and Operations for coordinating the resurfacing of our track over the November break and replacing the WESTWOOD sign at the front of our school over the winter break.

Warmly,

Bill Egan

Dear Families,

This week, our school community will focus on the character strength of Optimism. Optimism means that you expect the best from the future and work to achieve it.

Optimistic people have hope and confidence about the future. They believe good things will come and stay positive even when faced with challenges. They turn obstacles into steps toward their goals.

Optimism isn't just seeing the world through rose-colored glasses. It's about focusing on the good in any situation, staying open to opportunities, and managing emotions. Optimistic people make great leaders and can inspire others with their positive outlook and ability to find meaning in difficult times.

To practice and encourage the character strength of optimism at home, please visit The Positivity Project’s mobile-friendly P2 for Families (available in English and Spanish), where you will watch a video together and discuss a quote and three questions. Below are links to this week’s P2 for Families lessons. Click on the grade level that best meets your child’s needs.
