SCHOOL IN SESSION 3/27 - USING SNOW MAKE-UP DAY
(NO AM OR PM PRESCHOOL)
From the Principal
Happy Wednesday Cherrydale Families!
School Updates & Reminders
As a reminder, next week (April 1–3) will be half days for students due to Spring Conferences. All students will be dismissed at 12:35 PM each day. Thank you for planning ahead for this adjusted schedule.
We also want to share an important dismissal reminder to help keep everyone safe. If you are parking and getting out of your car, please be sure to park in a designated parking space and use the marked crosswalks when walking through the lot. Following these procedures helps us ensure a safe and smooth dismissal for all students and families.
Finally, please note that our building closes at 4:00 PM each day. If students leave items behind, they will need to pick them up the following school day. We appreciate your help in supporting these procedures and keeping our school running safely and efficiently.
Thank you for your continued partnership!
Warm Regards,
Christine Firth, Principal

Mileage Club is Underway!
Our Mileage Club is officially up and running! This optional recess activity gives students a fun and healthy way to stay active during the school day. Students can run or walk a 1/4-mile lap around our nature trail and log their miles as they go.
It’s a great opportunity for students to build endurance, set personal goals, and enjoy the outdoors with friends. Along the way, students can earn milestone tokens to celebrate their progress and achievements.
We’re excited to see how many miles our students will accomplish this season—keep up the great work!

Spring HiCap testing Grades 1-4
A note from the Highly Capable Program teacher, Mrs. Hannah Engstrom:
Every Spring there is a window of opportunity for 1st-4th grade students to apply for the district’s Highly Capable Program. Any family is welcome to apply. Students who qualify may have advanced academic skills, display an abundance of creativity, or are amazing thinkers. Application forms are found on the district’s website on this page: Highly Capable Program or you may request a paper copy from your child’s classroom teacher.
Applications are due April 17, 2026. Evaluation and testing will be completed in late April and early May. If you have any questions about the program, feel free to contact me via Parent Square or email at hengstrom@steilacoom.k12.wa.us.
Lost and Found Items
Please take a few minutes to check for any missing belongings (between 9am-4pm) as we have lined our hallways with coats, sweatshirts and more. We strongly recommend labeling your child’s jacket with their name to help ensure it is returned to them if misplaced.
ALL remaining items will be donated April 3rd. Thank you for helping us keep our school organized and clutter-free!
Help Keep Plastic Film out of Landfills
From now through May 1, students can drop off plastic film for recycling in the designated box located in the front foyer.
All the plastic film we collect during the drive will be turned into Trex decking!
Plastic film must be clean and dry.
If you and your child are interested in learning more, this info sheet explains what plastic film is and why it’s hard to recycle, and this video shows a ton of examples.
Here are some examples of plastic film products we can recycle:
Health & Attendance
Medication at School
State or federal law requires that a form must be completed and signed by both parent/guardian and a licensed health care provider with prescriptive authority for ALL medications to be given at school, including over-the-counter (OTC) medications. This form needs to be renewed at the beginning of each year.
Taking an extended vacation or short trip?
We’ve updated our Planned Absence Form to a new Google Form to make the process quicker and easier. No printing is required—just fill it out online using this link or visit our attendance page for more information.

Earth Day 2026 - Cheetah Walk Fundraiser
Every year (since 2004), in celebration of Earth Day, students and staff at Cherrydale work together to collect donations in order to help the Cheetah Conservation Fund (CCF) in Namibia, Africa. Sadly, cheetahs are an endangered species.
Check out the Cheetah Conservation Fund’s website at cheetah.org. We sponsor a cheetah named Rocket who lives with many other cheetahs at the CCF!
In honor of Earth Day this year, we will have an online fundraiser and money collection envelopes for all students. All proceeds will be donated to the CCF. We hope to exceed the total of $1,121.70 from last year’s fundraising
- Online donations will be accepted from April 2nd through April 27th.
- Cherrydale students will bring home a CCF money envelope soon that can be used to collect coins, cash, checks made out to Cherryvale Primary School (memo for CCF fundraiser)
- The grade level with the most donations will receive a bonus recess!
On Earth Day, Wednesday April 22nd, students and staff will walk around our playground nature trail while listening to music and wearing their favorite “cheetah gear” clothes and paper cheetah headbands. Students will receive a packet of flower seeds to take home and plant.
Cherrydale Cheetahs helping cheetahs – a great way to show we are PeaceBuilders who “Help Others”. Happy Earth Day!
