CO Staff Of the Week: Lucius F.

Lucius Firmin has been working at ASE since 2017 and was promoted to Asst. Supervisor this year. "I first started working here in 2017 when I was a sophomore in high school, my friend’s mom was the director at the time. She told us about it and I applied. My three younger brothers were all born around the same time so I’ve always been good with kids. I also went to high school down the street so it was pretty convenient too. I came here and started working ever since. Now, I am taking some time off from school and I work more hours here, I’m also a lunch aide and I’ve always been at Collicot after school and now I’m the assistant supervisor which is pretty cool.” Lucius loves interacting and having fun with students. “Before Covid, I only worked with a small group of kids. Coming back after Covid, I have interacted with every single kid in the program, I know every single kid personally and their parents.” Fun Fact: Lucius has his own clothing brand that many NBA and NFL players wear. It’s called Crav* Industries. CRAV* stands for "Change Requires Accepting Views." "We were actually featured in GQ within the last three months.”

GL Staff Of The Week: Ms. Mullins

Ms. Deborah Mullins is the Assistant Supervisor of Glover ASE. "Way back, I was a hairdresser at a hair salon. One of my clients who actually was a school director at the time, said she was looking for someone. So, I wound up closing my salon and working with her because I’ve always loved children. I went back to school and got certified to work with toddlers and young children. I then worked at a private school and taught PreK and Kindergarten. Then, I started working here first in the kitchen but I wanted to still be with children so I became a paraprofessional and I’ve been here for seven years.” As for her favorite part of her job, “I love working with all children but especially the younger children. I love listening to what they have to say and how they say it. But, the older children are so interesting in a different way. They’re really interesting and it is fun to work with them.” Ms. Mullins has learned so much from the students. “First of all, I’m not very handy with technology. Sometimes if you have a really bad day or day when you’re tired or whatever, they’re so unconditional and you can learn from them and just watching them. They just have a positive effect on you." Her favorite colors are purple and combos of black & white. As for her favorite animal, “Well, I have several. I have a dog. I have two cats. I have a chinchilla.” Fun Fact: "I like to dance, I’m a people person, I love going to the movies and, I like to read."
