HOME AND SCHOOL ASSOCIATION HOLDS WATER ICE SOCIAL
On August 19th, Garrettford Home and School Association sponsored a Welcome Back social on the back playground. The event was well attended and everyone enjoyed the camaraderie and cool treat. The children had the opportunity to catch up wiith old friends and make new ones, too!
FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL
Opening day was full of excitement and curiosity. Our PBIS Team had colorful signs out front to greet the students and the main hallway was decked out to welcome everyone as well. The children were very happy to meet their teachers and find their new classrooms, and the early dismissal days enabled everyone to ease back into the school routine. This summer our building was upgraded with all new doors which not only brightened up the building, but improved security. Teachers had many creative activities planned for the first week and the students also learned about expectations and routines throughout the building, in the cafeteria and on the playground. We are all looking forward to a positive and successful school year.
GARRETTFORD WELCOMES BACK STUDENTS, INCLUDING KINDERGARTENERS
Kindergarten students are a new addition to the Garrettford community this year. We are so excited to welcome them! So this year, our first graders are not the only new students to our building. We know that our second through fifth grade students will be wonderful ambassadors and welcome our kindergarteners and first graders, as well as any students who recently transferred into Garrettford. Welcome back everyone!
SECOND GRADERS EXPLORE NATURE
During the first full week of school, our second graders dove right into Module 1 of the new ELA curriculum. They will be spending a lot of time learning and reading about seasonal change. The students took a nature walk and collected leaves. Once back in the classroom, they colored a leaf template and discussed a chemical in leaves called chlorophyll, which makes the leaves green. Here are a few pictures of Ms. Albrecht’s and Ms. Maull’s students during this activity.
Dr. McGarry and the Administratve Cabinet Visit Garrettford
On September 8th, Garrettford was the site of "Coffee with the Supperintendent." It was a great opportunity for parents to ask questions of the Superintendent and to hear news about the District. It was also a chance for the Administrators to see the work that was done in our building over the summer. The capital improvement was designed to upgrade all the doors in the building to continue the modernization efforts and especially to improve our security.
FIRST EAGLES SPIRIT DAY FOR SEASON OPENER
Garrettford staff and students were decked out in green to support the home team on Friday, September 11th. We never miss an opportunity to make learning fun and bring our community together here at Garrettford! What better way to start than to celebrate the Eagles' home opener. Check out the variety of Eagles gear and Garrettford's #1 sports fan, Mr. Vince.
FIRST WALKING SCHOOL BUS DRAWS A CROWD
Under the leadership of Miss Gwen and our many staff volunteers, Garrettford held our first successful Walking School Bus of the year. Look for our next one on October 13th. This is a great way for the kids to get some exercise and to build community among our families.
