Happy almost-February! Can you believe January is nearly over? It feels like just yesterday we were welcoming everyone back after the holidays, and now we're already nearing the end of the month. This time of year always brings a mix of excitement and focused energy as students demonstrate all the amazing things they've learned so far. This week, we're supporting them through various assessments, but more importantly, we're celebrating the incredible growth we've seen in every classroom. Learning is a journey, and we're so thrilled to be on this adventure with your children.

This week, in our attendance game called "Candyland," Ms. Dotson's, Mrs. Simpson's, Mrs. Herrell's, and Mrs. Ward's (2nd-grade) classes landed on award spaces. Keep up the great work! Congratulations to our Braves of the Week for demonstrating positive behavior in our school, and thank you to everyone for maintaining our Brave Pride! Lastly, please remind students to bring their coats, even if they feel it's warm enough, as this is important for their safety. I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Guidance Guidance

Classroom guidance is introducing lessons that are part of the evidenced-based COPE Program (Creating Opportunities for Personal Empowerment). The COPE Program teaches children how their thoughts also affect how they feel and behave. They will be learning healthy ways to cope with negative events or thoughts that may occur in their lives. This program will be taught for the remainder of the semester.

This week's lesson focused on turning negative statements into positive statements. Examples of negative are "I can't" or "It's too hard." Students had to come up with their own alternatives such as "I will," "I can't YET," "I can do hard things," "I will keep trying," etc.

The Brave Bots robotics team competed in their first competition of the season on Wednesday night. This year's VEX IQ game was extremely difficult, and the team persevered building a robot that was able to compete and help score points for their team.

4th Grade GLOW Day 4th Grade GLOW Day

Students got to complete their work with glow-in-the-dark lightin as a way to make learning fun. In their STEM and science periods, they learned about how glow sticks work and the effect of temperature on their glow. Their vocabulary word of the day is chemiluminescence, which is the emission of light from a chemical reaction. It's a type of electromagnetic radiation that doesn't produce heat.

Drop off/Pick up Safety Concern Drop off/Pick up Safety Concern

zoom_out_map

Drop off: If you are dropping a student off at school in the morning, students should be dropped off at the gym doors. There are adults and cones present for student safety. If you are parked on the north side of the building, students should be walked with an adult to the sidewalk to ensure they get to the gym doors safely. Students should NOT be walking from the staff parking lot across to the school. That is not a staff supervised drop off area.

Pick up: Cars should not be parked in the lanes until 3:00 pm. If you arrive early, you will need to park in a parking space. There are people who have attended meetings or are picking up a sick child who need to leave before the end of the school day. Please be considerate of this as cars may be asked to move to allow cars to pass.

Please be careful driving and have patience during drop off and pick up. Student safety is our priority!

Attendance Attendance

Regular attendance is crucial for students’ academic success. When students miss school, they often miss important lessons, assignments, and opportunities for interaction with their classmates and teachers. This can lead to falling behind in their studies and feeling discouraged. It’s essential for students to attend school consistently to build a strong foundation for their education and future goals.

If your child will not be at school, you must leave the reason for your child's absence when calling into the attendance line. Thank you!

5th Grade: Destiny Shelton

I am so excited that Destiny is the Brave of the Week this week. She is so deserving of this honor! Since the start of the school year, I have loved watching her grow as a student. She takes great pride in working hard, participating, and being a leader in our class. Destiny is one of our top spellers and works hard each week to earn over 100%.
