We had a fabulous Back to School Night September 3. Many of our families enjoyed going to the different classrooms and discovering the different countries that were researched by our students. The international potluck had fabulous food from all over the world. We had a delightful time breaking bread with our students and their families. Students who had a full passport also received a free book of their choice. We hope that you are enjoying reading together!

Phone Policy Phone Policy

San Juan Unified has passed a new phone policy, that applies to the classrooms and staff at our site.

Phones Away. Minds Engaged.

Beginning in the 2026-27 school year, students at elementary, K-8 and middle schools will keep personal mobile devices stored away throughout the school day, including during lunch and passing periods. This also includes staff working with children.

The change is designed to support student learning by reducing distractions, increasing engagement and encouraging more face-to-face interactions among students. Research and community feedback show that limiting access to phones and other personal devices during the school day can help students stay focused, participate more fully in school activities and strengthen connections with their peers.

School emergency communication procedures will remain unchanged.

Thank you for your partnership as we work together to create a focused, supportive learning environment for all students. For additional information about the district's mobile device expectations, please visit www.sanjuan.edu/mobilepolicy.

RRC PTA. You belong here! RRC PTA. You belong here!

Come when you can. Help when you can. Connect when you need to.

We know that RRC families have busy lives, but there are many different ways to be part of our school community. Volunteering doesn’t have to mean attending every meeting, committing to a large event, or taking on a big job. This year, the RRC PTA is trying a new approach: small, flexible opportunities that allow families to help when they can and in ways that work for them. Maybe you have 30 minutes. Maybe you can donate an item. Maybe you can help at an event once a year. Maybe you want to connect with other RRC families.

We’ll share different opportunities in the monthly RRC newsletter, so families can choose what interests them and what fits their schedules. Whether you have a few minutes, a few hours, or want to stay connected, there are many ways to be part of our RRC community.

September Opportunity: Celebrate Our Staff!

Each month, a volunteer can spend approximately 15–30 minutes writing birthday cards for our staff members—with a maximum of 8 staff birthdays per month—and either deliver them to the front office or send them to school with your student.

The RRC PTA will provide birthday cards and envelopes, so all you need to do is add a personal message and help us make our staff feel celebrated!

Interested in helping? You can sign up for one month, a couple of months, or the entire school year—whatever works best for you!

M.O.V.E. Moment M.O.V.E. Moment

M.O.V.E. stands for Mobility Opportunities Via Education/Experience and is a San Juan sponsored activity-based program designed to teach children with severe disabilities the functional motor skills needed to sit, stand, and walk as independently as possible. We have students and staff working very hard on this every day!

Meet Ian!! Ian has been a student at Ralph Richardson Center for a long time, and he is so resilient!! He has had major surgeries and he just keeps on keeping on. He is walking so well now that he can step over things like a Bosu Ball. We are so proud of Ian and how hard he works. Keep it up!!
