Dear Families,

Happy October! As the weather turns crisp and the autumn leaves begin to shift, our students have truly settled into their daily routines. It has been a joy watching them build momentum in their classrooms over the past few weeks, and we are looking forward to everything the fall season brings to our school community - including some fun events for families put on by our amazing PTA team.

With the cooler morning temperatures, we ask that you send your child to school with appropriate layers like coats or sweaters. We head outside for recess whenever weather permits, so having comfortable outerwear makes a big difference. Helpful hint, putting your student's name on jacket tags also helps us return any misplaced items and support a smaller lost and found pile 🙂

This beginning of November also brings with it our upcoming parent-teacher conferences on Monday and Tuesday November 2nd and 3rd. These meetings are incredibly informational and a great opportunity to discuss your child's growth and partner together on goals for the rest of the term. Staff will be sending out their conference details soon!

Along with the change in season, daylight is growing shorter and morning drop-offs can get busy. Please take extra care when driving through our parking zones, watching carefully for children and staying strictly to the crosswalks. Also please treat all adult volunteers and staff with respect as you navigate the following expectations below:

If you are driving and have a 1st- 5th grader we ask that you use the kiss and go lane and drop your student off / pick your student up from school that way. Procedures for the kiss and go lane.

  • Please pull all the way forward to the designated drop-off/pick-up area.

  • The driver should remain in the car, and the child should exit or enter the car onto the sidewalk. Please have your child ready to exit on The right side of the car where an adult will be there to support. Please do not drop your student off by the kindergarten corral or along the “front” of the school. This causes more traffic jams and potential accidents.

  • When pulling away from the kiss and go lane please do so calmly, safely and with awareness of your blind spots. Please drive slowly and watch for pedestrians and staff who are assisting students.

Thank you for your ongoing support and partnership in making our school a warm, safe space for learning. We wish you and your family a wonderful start to the autumn season.

Warmly,

Michelle Strickler

Principal, Cedar Wood Elementary

Information Updates Information Updates

Please take a few minutes to complete your student’s Information Update Form in ParentVUE. This quick review helps ensure we have accurate contact, health, emergency, and guardian information—especially important after our recent system change. Keeping this information up to date allows us to better support your child’s safety, communication, and opportunities throughout the school year.

ParentVUE vs. ParentSquare - What is the Difference?

We know the names are similar, but ParentVUE and ParentSquare provide two different important functions.

  • ParentVUE gives families access to important student information.
    • Report your student's attendance
    • View grades, schedules, transportation information and more
  • ParentSquare is where all communication from schools, teachers and the district is squared away.

If email or voicemail is preferred:

**Email cweattendance@everettsd.org as well as your teacher for absences, late drop off, early pick up, or a change in how they get home.

**Call (425) 385-7705 to leave a voicemail regarding absences, late drop off, or early pick up.

If you have a medical note and would like to share it, we’re happy to accept it. You can attach it to a ParentVUE absence notification, send it through ParentSquare, email it to us, or drop it off at the office.

CHANGE IN PICK UP PLANS

**Please notify us at least one hour in advance using ParentSquare, email, or voicemail. If that is not possible, please call the office at (425) 385-7700 to ensure we receive the message in time before school gets out.

PLANNED ABSENCES

**If you know of upcoming absences, such as travel or vacation, please complete the Planned Absence Form located at this link. (Cedar Wood website > Attendance Reporting > Planned Absence Request)

**This can be completed electronically and attached to a ParentVUE absence submission.

**There are also paper copies in the school office and this can be returned to the front desk.

Lost and Found Lost and Found

Jackets, Water Bottles, Lunch Boxes, OH MY!

Our lost & found items accumulate very quickly. The items are rolled out near the front office before school at drop off and after school at pick up. Students also have the opportunity to check for items as they walk into the cafeteria for lunch each day.

To keep personal belongings out of the lost & found, please label your child's jackets, sweatshirts, lunch boxes, water bottles, gloves, etc.

At the beginning of every month, all items in the lost & found will be donated to a local charity. Please encourage your children to check the lost & found before the end of each month.

Morning Arrival Morning Arrival

We love starting each day together right on time! Teachers will pick up their classes promptly at 9:10 AM to begin the day. The tardy bell rings at 9:15 AM. Students arriving after that time will need to check in at the office. If you arrive and notice the gate is locked, please send your child directly to the front office so we can ensure they safely make it to class.

A gentle reminder that supervision begins at 8:50am (please don't drop off your student beforehand). Dropping your student off between 9:05 and 9:10 helps minimize wait time and keeps our morning routine running smoothly. Thank you for helping your student start the day ready to learn!
