Grade Eight Travel Wrap-up

Last Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday grade eight students had the opportunity to make real-life connections to some of the things they've been studying over the course of the school year as they visited locations of historical significance both here at home in Massachusetts, and away, in our nation's capitol.

Please join me in extending a huge thank you to the many faculty members who went above and beyond to arrange for these memorable experiences. The amount of time and planning that goes into these days is incredible and very much appreciated!

HMS OBOS Presents: AAPI Heritage Month Workshop Series

Hingham Middle School’s One Book, One School committee is excited to announce the AAPI Heritage Workshop Series!

These culturally engaging, student-centered experiences during the month of May will be held in recognition of Asian American & Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month.

Workshops will include activities such as the art of origami, Ikebana, Chinese calligraphy, Kintsugi, and more. Set to kick off on May 5 after school at HMS, the workshop series will focus on presenting enriching activities and opportunities to celebrate the arts and culture of Asians and Pacific Islanders in America.

Through the generosity of the PTO, resources have been made available for students to explore cultural touchstones and connect to AAPI heritage and customs.

The series is open to all HMS students who are interested in trying new things, being creative, developing leadership skills, building community, and having fun celebrating AAPI Heritage month.

See the calendar below for upcoming events: **Note, some dates have changed.

On Tuesday May 13th, Mrs. Blake held an Ikebana class for the Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage month. For those unfamiliar, ikebana is the Japanese art of flower arranging. The flower arrangements came out beautiful and the discussion was wonderful!

Hold that pose!!! Grade Six is drawing and watercolor painting from real life thanks to a special visitor - "Drex" the bearded dragon.

Tunnels to Towers

In honor of Memorial Day, the 7th Grade Pirate Team will be collecting donations to Tunnels to Towers to remember and honor our fallen soldiers, servicemen, and women, along with their families. Tunnels to Towers has been helping America’s heroes by providing mortgage-free homes to fallen first responder families with young children and by building specially-adapted smart homes for catastrophically injured veterans and first responders. They are also committed to eradicating veteran homelessness and helping America to Never Forget September 11, 2001. On Wednesday, May 21st we will collect the donations during homeroom. We hope students and teachers can join us in wearing Red, White, and Blue to show support.
