Westwood STEAM Showcase Westwood STEAM Showcase

The STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) Showcase on Tuesday, April 29th was an expansion of last year's Science Showcase. Not only did students from Mrs. Hamel's Physical Science participate, but also her Applied Chemistry classes, students from Mrs. Grout's Biology class, and Art students! In Mrs. Hamel's classes, students were given a choice of around 75 topics to choose from related to physical or chemical science to research. Students were to develop an experiment or create a model to represent their topic, write an academic lab report, and construct a visual trifold to display their research and work. Feedback from students last year indicated that this project was one of their favorite parts of science that year, which led Mrs. Hamel to expand the opportunity to more students. Increasing student engagement in scientific research into topics of their own interest advances motivation and relevance of science in their lives. Inclusion of the arts this year recognizes how the pursuit of science is connected to the creativity and beauty around us.

Senior Slide Show

WHS Senior Parents and Guardians: As we do every year, we will be putting together a senior memory video to be shown on your student's last day of school during the breakfast. It is a fun video and the students love to see the memories.

We would like to include as many pictures as possible from their lives. But we aren't looking for individual shots. We need pictures, with two or more seniors in the shot. These can be from birth through their senior year. We would love to see pictures from school, summer activities, preschool, holiday events, etc. The more we have to work with, the better the video turns out.

These pictures can be sent to me via email at villars@nice.k12.mi.us or to Madisyn Gregorich at msgregorich@nice.k12.mi.us. You can also send in hard copies to be scanned and returned to you.

We will need to have all pictures in by the beginning of May in order to have the video completed in time.

Please let me know if you have any questions and we cannot wait to see the pictures!!
