Stop being impressed. Start getting better.
We all love feeling good about our achievements, but happiness isn't the same as high performance. This week, we're diving into a tough-love concept from one of the masters of personal growth: "The sooner we become less impressed with our life... the sooner we get better at them. We must be more than just happy to be here."
Ready to move beyond mere satisfaction and into true mastery?

Softball from Tuesday
Blue River hadn't done well against Milford recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. Blue River's pitcher stepped up to hand Milford a 5-0 shutout. The win was nothing new for Blue River as they're now sitting on six straight.
The result came thanks to Abby Lindsley's shutout, as she gave up just five hits and racked up 13 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Ashlyn Long, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Danica Watts, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs.
Blue River's record is now 19-7. As for Milford, they dropped their record down to 11-14 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road.
Softball from Thursday
Milford had lost four straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped down to 11-14 to make it five. They fell 5-0 to Blue River. Having soared to a lofty 12 runs in the game before, the Eagles' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Milford saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Maeli Kubicek, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one double.
As for Blue River, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 19-7. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games.
On Blue River's side, the result came thanks to Abby Lindsley's shutout, as she gave up just five hits and racked up 13 Ks. Lindsley has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.
At the plate, Ashlyn Long was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Danica Watts was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs.

✨Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST)✨
Congratulations goes to our own Becky Schueth who has been named a State Finalist for this award!
This is the highest honors bestowed by the United States government specifically for K-12 science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and/or computer science teaching. Mrs. Schueth is currently teaching high school mathematics here at SRC. This is her 11th year at S-RC and I teach Geometry, Technical Math, College Algebra, PreCalculus and Calculus. Becky has 20 years of experience in teaching and she began her career at Columbus High School. Mrs. Schueth Bachelor’s (2005) and Master’s (2009) degrees are from Wayne State College. Message for the Week:
Message from Mr. Tejkl
Action needed...
Good morning!
What an amazing homecoming week! Thank you to every single one of our students who made it an enjoyable experience and to our staff members who had great attitudes and participation throughout the week! Also, thank you to all of our communities coming together once again and showing our pride! It was a great week and it is all worth the controlled chaos :).
I recently came across a quote that challenges a fundamental idea about success and satisfaction: “The sooner we become less impressed with our life, our accomplishments, our career, our relationships... the sooner we become less impressed and more involved with these things – the sooner we get better at them. We must be more than just happy to be here.” This isn't about ignoring achievement; it's about recognizing that satisfaction can often be the enemy of excellence.
For our entire community—from our students in the classroom to the staff members throughout the building to our partners in our communities—we are challenged to move past simply admiring what we have and dive into the deeper work of continuous involvement. This means our students must stop checking boxes and start focusing on mastery, looking beyond the grade to the depth of understanding. Our staff and faculty must replace professional pride with action, constantly asking how our processes can be better, not just functional. And our community members must trade passive support for active partnership, becoming invested participants in our success. Our shared future gets better the moment we collectively trade our applause for a deeper, more determined commitment.
The quote's power lies in its simplicity: we must do more than just show up. Whether you're a student preparing for a major exam, a staff member leading a new initiative, or a community member supporting our mission, your active involvement is the engine of our collective success.
Let's commit this week to trading the comfort of satisfaction for the pursuit of excellence. Stop being impressed with where we are, and start working on where we can go. The moment we stop celebrating the status quo and start embracing the work, we stop getting good and start becoming great.
Have a great rest of your Sunday!
Quote of the week to reflect on:
"The sooner we become less impressed with our life, our accomplishments, our career, our relationships, the prospects in front of us - the sooner we become less impressed and more involved with these things - the sooner we get better at them. We must be more than just happy to be here".
Matthew McConaughey
Sincerely,
Tucker Tejkl
