Hello Charger Family!!

I hope you all had a peaceful and restful weekend!

We are well into the school year and I am extremely proud of how this year has started. Our students & staff have adjusted well to some new protocols in place (i.e. Tardiness, Cell Phones, etc.) and our school community has shown a TON of Charger School PRIDE!

We are approaching the first release of our student's Progress Reports. These grades are a way to show our students and their families the academic progress they are making in classes. The progress reports will be delivered on Tuesday, September 17th to the email we have on file for families.

Please remember that we have academic support services available (starting THIS week!) in our Tutoring and Academic Center on Tuesdays through Thursdays from 3:30 - 4:30 p.m. There are tutors and staff available to assist students with homework, upcoming tests/quizzes, projects, etc.

I encourage our students to take advantage of this opportunity. In addition to these services, most teachers also hold "office hours" in order to help our students progress in their classes.

Part of student success is ATTENDANCE!! Gotta be there to learn!

A couple of things to note:

  1. If your student is going to be absent for ANY reason, please call the Attendance Office at 217-351-3951 (choose the attendance option). You can leave a message if no one is available to take your call.
  2. Students are provided 5 EXCUSED Mental Health Days (per the State of Illinois) each year. It is ok to use these (they do not "roll over" into the next school year 😉)! Simply inform our Attendance staff at the time of your call that the student will be taking a Mental Health Day.

As of now, our Student Attendance Rate at Centennial is as follows:

Overall Building Total - 90.5%

Freshman Attendance - 86.1%

Sophomore Attendance - 93%

Junior Attendance - 92.7%

Senior Attendance 91.7%

As always, please don't hesitate to reach out to me via email at sandersa@u4sd.org or by phone at 217-351-3951 should you have any concerns, questions, comments! Or if you'd like share positive messages about your student's experience or our staff at Centennial! We thrive on these notes and I share them with our staff. 😊

Here's to another #FULLYCHARGED week ahead!

IMPORTANT REMINDERS: IMPORTANT REMINDERS:

1. Social Probation Reminder:

  • At Centennial, we believe in the idea of "Work Hard, Play Hard!" Students who are working hard in class, attending and being to class on time, following the Student Code of Conduct, and showing Charger PRIDE are eligible to attend our school events, dances, games, competitions, etc.! However, students who are still working on the these skills are not yet eligible to attend. Students are on Social Probation when they have:
    • 5 or more Unexcused Tardies
    • 5 or more Unexcused Absences for Class(es)

    • 3 or more Discipline Referrals

    • Suspended out of school for 1 or more days

2. Cell Phone/AirPod/Earbud/Headphone Usage:

  • Our students are getting better with following the cell phone/electronics protocols! We couldn't do this without our FAMILIES' support!
  • During instructional times, students are to have their cell phone devices (including AirPods, earbuds, headphones) silenced and put away in their bags. There are posters in each classroom reminding students about these expectations, as well as the consequences for infractions.
