Principal's Message:

Greetings, WIS Families! Here are the latest news, events, and important reminders for our school community this week.

WIS Read-A-Thon (September 11–21): Our annual WIS Read-A-Thon is officially underway! Running through September 21st, 95% of all proceeds directly support our WIS PTO. Students can earn incredible individual, class, and school-wide prizes—including an All-School Pajama Day at $15,000 raised, an All-School Popsicle Day at $25,000, and a trip to the Grizzly Arcade on a Grizzly Pedal Bike for our top 5 earners and top 5 readers!

Read-A-Thon Theme Days: To celebrate our love of reading, we are hosting special theme dress-up days:

  • Monday, Sept 14 – Read-A-Shirt Day: Wear a t-shirt with words, phrases, or a fun message.

  • Tuesday, Sept 15 – Hat Day: Top off your look with a favorite hat.

  • Wednesday, Sept 16 – Wild West Readers: Saddle up in your favorite Western gear!

  • Thursday, Sept 17 – Team Up for Books: Show your school spirit with your favorite sports team gear.

  • Monday, Sept 21 – Super Reader Day: Dress like a superhero or wear a superhero shirt!

Student Council Elections: Student Council elections are taking place this week! Each homeroom class will select one representative to participate. Please note that students selected and who participate in Student Council will be charged a $25 participation fee.

Chromebook Insurance Deadline: The final day to purchase annual Chromebook Insurance for the school year is September 22nd. This $25 annual fee covers up to 3 accidental damage incidents and must be repurchased each school year. You can indicate your interest by checking the box in Final Forms or simply sending in your payment.

School Fee Payment Options: Families can conveniently pay all school fees—including instructional fees and Chromebook insurance—online through PaySchools. If you prefer to pay with physical currency, we accept exact cash or checks made payable to Wadsworth City Schools. Please note that if you are paying by cash or check and have children in multiple school buildings, separate payments must be sent directly to each individual school building. Combined payments across different school buildings cannot be accepted.

King Regards,

Brandon Cobb, Principal

Character Strong

We are so grateful you are a part of the school community this year. One of the aims at our school is to equip young people for all the realities of today’s world. With that in mind, we have partnered with CharacterStrong - an organization that provides training for educators and social & emotional learning curriculum for students. Their work will focus on 3 main outcomes: increasing a sense of belonging for all students, improving skills that support student well-being, and deepening student engagement in their academics, in their school, and in their community.

This curriculum was created to support school communities as they engage in the work of preparing young people to thrive in the 21st century. The research supports the effectiveness of social & emotional learning in schools to increase student’s academic success and college & career readiness. The lessons focus on developing skills and mindsets around building positive habits, understanding our emotions, and increasing empathy for people and communities who have lived different lives than us. The curriculum helps students think about things they want to improve in their school, their relationships, and their world and then provides tools for them to work individually and in teams to close the gaps they’ve identified.

One of the key parts of nearly every lesson is the “CharacterDare” for students. These are invitations near the end of most lessons to put the content that they are learning into action in the real world. If you ever want to play an active role in the CharacterStrong curricula, simply ask your student about the most recent CharacterDare. Maybe they’ll invite you to try one yourself! To learn more about CharacterStrong, check out characterstrong.com to discover other resources for students and families.

We recommend you let the attendance desk/teacher know when your student will be absent, leaving early, or arriving late.
