What's Blooming @ Columbine
December 2025 - Columbine Elementary
Happy December Columbine Families!
I am so grateful for the opportunity to welcome your students to Columbine each day! Getting to know them has been a source of great joy for all of us here at Columbine this semester. As we enter the busy holiday season, I hope you'll join us to celebrate and be part of our community at one or both of these fun events:
- Choir Holiday Concert December 11th @ 6pm - The Columbine Choir will present several pieces they've prepared to celebrate the holiday season and their special voices. All are welcome to come support our Columbine Singers!
- Class Holiday Breakfast December 18th - Parents and families are welcome to join their student for breakfast and a brief activity in the classroom to celebrate the first semester! Classroom teachers will communicate the specific breakfast time, food sign ups, and other details to each of their classes. Students are welcome to wear holiday pajamas or fun, festive clothing! The day will be relaxed, joyful, and fun, as we celebrate the end of a fantastic first semester.
May you and your family have a blessed holiday season!

Holiday Breakfast @ Columbine December 18th
*Please note that this year's sing-a-long has been updated to be more of a celebratory get together for students and staff instead of a formal performance. Students and staff will be able to wear pajamas, silly sweaters, and other festive gear to gather together for a more informal and connected student-staff sing-a-long first thing in the morning. Our goal is to create a day where students and staff can celebrate and be merry in a stress-free setting with one another as we wrap up a very successful semester. Parents/families are welcome to attend but there is no expectation to do so.
This is a standing room only event.
*Families, we hope you'll join your student for holiday breakfast and activities later in the morning. Look out for more information from your child's classroom teacher.

Digital Well-Being Over the Holidays, from Mr. Schymos
As winter break approaches, many children naturally spend more time on devices—whether it’s watching videos, playing games, or chatting with friends. This extra screen time can be fun and relaxing, but it also makes December a great moment to check in on your child’s digital habits. Establishing clear expectations now helps children feel secure, balanced, and safe as routines shift and free time increases.
As parents we can support healthy habits by setting simple, predictable limits such as screen-free mealtimes, device-free bedrooms at night, or specific daily time windows for gaming and videos. Encourage your child to take movement breaks, play outside when possible, and balance screen time with creative play, family activities (such as board games), and rest. Consider co-viewing or playing along with your child occasionally; shared screen time opens the door to positive conversations about what they’re watching or doing online.
The holidays are a good opportunity to review online safety. Remind children not to share personal information, to come to a trusted adult if something online makes them uncomfortable, and to use respectful language in games and messages. Families may want to explore kid-friendly privacy settings, talk about choosing appropriate content, or create a simple family media plan together. A few small steps can make technology more enjoyable, safe, and balanced during the winter break.

If there is a two hour delay in WPSD, all Columbine students will check in with our delayed start questionnaire, available here. The questionnaire will also be sent to families on the morning of the delay so you can access it easily.
Snow Day Procedure:
If there is a snow day announced for WPSD, Columbine Elementary will be closed. Enjoy the snow day!
Leave Toys and Trinkets at Home
