Competition Recap
PIL Duals
We traveled to Grant last week to face off against Grant and Franklin. It was great to see everyone that attended get at least one match! This rarely happens at a PIL Dual but having 2 other large teams really helped out.
The boys and girls teams both went 1-1. The boys defeated Franklin 48-36, but fell short against Grant, 70-10. Meanwhile, the girls defeated Grant 32-6 and lost to Franklin 47-23.
Individually, Kieran, Shae, Linda, Zorina, and Misha won all of their matches.
In the boy's dual against Franklin each match we won was by pin, making for a quite fast and exciting match. It was also really cool to see Franklin send out a complete girl's team, as well as having a number of extras.
Silverton Invitational
Saturday was a very early morning for the boys as they headed out to Silverton for our last tune-up tournament before the district meet. We faced some very tough competition, but Shae impressed with a second place finish and Lucius is working his way back into match shape as he finished 4th.
Art, Captain, Walker, Kieran, Sam, Gabriel, Wakmand, and Isaac also all picked up a win or two on the day. Overall it was a good learning experience for everyone as they all found things they did well and things to work on in the coming weeks.
Athletes of the Week
Misha Russo-Yanowitz
Misha has been wrestling extremely well over the last couple of weeks. She goes into each match fearless and ready to compete. At the Guardian Invite she finished 3rd and won both of her dual matches this week by pin. Misha is also looking to get better. She asks great questions and is always trying to invent new moves or find ways to score. Misha is one of the first athletes asking for extra matches or if anyone is available to have an exhibition match. She has put herself in a great position to do well at regionals this week, we hope all of her hard work pays off!
