The Rhodes Ahead

From Mrs. Rhodes

With the start of Lent last Ash Wednesday, we keep hearing the words prayer, fasting and almsgiving. Many of the readings during Masses these first weeks encourage us to do these as a way to ensure that we focus our life on the eternal life that is to come, developing virtues to maintain our focus rather than the distractions of this life. If you had a chance to attend the Mission last Sunday or Monday, you were reminded of our truth that Tim Glemkowski, author of Made for Mission, challenged us to embrace our baptismal call to evangelization, shifting from maintenance-mode faith to a dynamic, mission-driven Church. As the mission closed, the facility master plan was placed at the feet of the Lord (symbolically at the foot of the renovated statue of the Sacred Heart of Jesus) as a reminder for us to pray for God's will in the plan. It will be revealed to us on the evening of March 25 when we celebrate Mary receiving from Angel Gabriel that she will bear a son who will be our Savior.

Please pray for this plan as it will impact our school and parish in so many ways. It is always amazing to see what can be accomplished with many people working together - let's start now by praying for this! God bless SHOJ!

Strength in Surrender,

Kathy Rhodes

Reminder from the Nurse's Office

We understand that there are times that morning medication gets forgotten and kids get to school without it. If you need to give your child a dose of medication (prescription or over the counter), I ask that it either be given directly to your child by yourself, if a loose pill is brought into the school or it be brought in a labeled prescription container or OTC medicine bottle. With fake medications being manufactured at alarming rates, I do not feel comfortable (myself or any other staff member) handing a loose pill to a student. We appreciate your understanding on this safety issue regarding medication administration.

If you have any questions about this, please feel free to reach out to Nurse Mary.

Motivation for Kansas State Assessments

Thank you for the tremendous response! Kansas Assessments are taking place in a few weeks and we want to support our 3rd through 8th grade students. We are creating snack bags to encourage our hard-working students throughout the testing sessions. If you would like to help us with this project, please see the sign-up link for more information. Thank you!
