"Unsung Hero" Nominations

At Bellevue Community Schools, we believe that it takes a village, OUR VILLAGE, to create a positive, supportive, and thriving learning environment. Our Unsung Hero recognition celebrates the individuals who quietly go above and beyond—often without seeking attention or praise. These heroes can be parents, students, staff members, community partners, or any individual who helps make BCS a great place to learn, achieve, and succeed. We invite you to nominate someone whose dedication, kindness, and commitment make a meaningful impact on our school community.

Please consider completing the SIMPLE 3 question Unsung Hero survey to nominate someone special.

Elementary:

  • Mr. Huber proudly delivered heartfelt cards created by the 2nd grade team and his 5th/6th grade math classes to veterans at the Maple City VFW Post 2406 during Saturday morning’s Veterans Breakfast. Thank you, Mr. Huber, for your service and for helping our students honor local veterans in such a meaningful way!

  • Beginning band and first graders enjoyed exploring music together. They learned about a variety of instruments and their families, discovered why pitch changes, and explored the difference between beat and rhythm.

  • Mr. Curtis had students participating in a relay that involved literacy and movement by having letters on fake leaves scattered across the gym. Literacy + movement= laugher in learning.

Jr/Sr:

  • Congratulations to Taylor Madry! Taylor was recently honored with the prestigious DAR Good Citizen Award (Daughters of the American Revolution). This recognition celebrates students who demonstrate exceptional citizenship, dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism.

  • Our NHS students spent the day cooking and serving meals at the Ronald McDonald House! We’re proud of their commitment to giving back and supporting families in need. Service, leadership, and community in action!
  • Congratulations to our students with their success on the OLSAT test. This test focuses on logic, reasoning, problem solving, and noticing patterns. It is the first step in applying to the Battle Creek Math and Science Center. (See image below.)

Hi everyone,

What a week it’s been. There is an energy running through our buildings right now, and it’s been great to see students and staff leaning into these last few days before the holiday break. With just two school days left until Thanksgiving, I want to take a moment to say thanks for everything you continue to pour into our kids and our community.

This time of year always brings a mix of excitement, busy schedules, and a little bit of chaos, but you all handle it with such ease. Whether it’s the extra patience in the hallways, the creativity happening in classrooms, or the way you support each other behind the scenes. It all adds up, and it all matters.

Let’s finish these next two days strong and enjoy the chance to slow down with family and friends next week. I hope the upcoming break brings everyone some well-earned rest and a chance to recharge.

Have a great weekend and a great start to Thanksgiving week!

Winter Weather Decisions

Winter weather will arrive, and I want to share the key factors we consider when deciding whether to close schools, delay work, or cancel activities due to severe weather.

Our top priority is always the safety and well-being of our students, staff, and families. Understanding the “why” behind these decisions is essential to keeping everyone informed and prepared. When deciding to close schools, we assess the safety of students and staff traveling by bus, car, or on foot. We also consider the severity of the weather, such as extreme cold, snow, or ice conditions, and the timing of weather events, whether they occur overnight or throughout the day.

During severe weather events, the Superintendent and the Director of Transportation closely monitor weather forecasts, including updates from the National Weather Service. To ensure a comprehensive understanding of regional conditions, we also consult with superintendents and transportation directors from our area.

When a decision is made, we strive to notify our Bronco families, students, and staff as quickly as possible. If you are not receiving calls or emails from the district, please contact your student's school to be sure we have updated information.

Thank you for your understanding as we navigate the winter season together.
