Note from the Principal

Dear Washington Families,

As we turn the page to April, the energy in our hallways is shifting. There is a sense of focus, a bit of excitement for the warmer weather, and a collective determination to finish the school year strong. Here is what you need to know for the month ahead:

State assessments and our spring universal screeners are officially underway! We have been framing these evaluations for our students as opportunities for them to shine and show off everything they have learned throughout the year. Please encourage your child to do their very best. A good night’s sleep and a nutritious breakfast go a long way in helping them stay focused and confident. We want our students to approach these assessments with a positive mindset, knowing their hard work is something to be proud of.

Keep an eye on your child’s backpack as report cards will be arriving soon. When you receive yours, I encourage you to sit down with your child to review it together. Take this time to celebrate their progress. Whether it’s a mastery of a difficult math concept or a glowing comment about their citizenship, every win deserves recognition. These conversations help reinforce the value of their effort!

This month, we are focusing on Courage. To get us started, we had a fantastic kickoff assembly featuring Coach Matt Hockett and the UWSP Women’s Basketball team!

It was an incredible, high-energy event where the players shared what it means to be courageous on the court and in the classroom. A huge thank you to the team for an engaging assembly that inspired our students to approach every new challenge with courage!

As the snow finally fades and the first signs of spring begin to bloom, we are reminded of the growth happening all around us. It is a season of renewal and fresh starts. We are so grateful to partner with you during this vibrant time of year.

Be well,

Hallie Ritchay

We’re currently looking for individuals to join our Food Service and Transportation teams, two roles that play an essential part in each student’s day. From preparing meals that fuel learning to safely transporting students to and from school, these positions make a meaningful difference in our schools and community. Both areas offer flexible schedules and the opportunity to stay connected to our schools in a hands-on way. If you or someone you know may be interested, we encourage you to reach out to learn more about current openings and how you can join our team!

First Steps in the Forest

Our Kindergarteners embarked on a very special adventure in march... their first-ever trip to the Boston School Forest! For many of our youngest Tigers, this was an introduction to the beautiful outdoor school they will get to visit year after year. From exploring the trails to discovering the wonders of nature, we hope they had a wonderful time. We look forward to watching them grow alongside the trees as they return to the forest throughout their journey in the Stevens Point schools!

First Grade Spirit Shines Bright!

Our hallways were glowing the week before spring break, thanks to our incredible First Graders! To celebrate Spirit Week, our youngest Tigers showed up in full force, rocking their finest orange gear to show off their school pride. It was wonderful to see their enthusiasm and "Tiger spirit" on full display. Way to lead the way and show us all how it’s done, First Grade!

A Huge Thank You to Tom Pease and our PTO!

If you heard some extra humming coming from the hallways, you can thank Tom Pease! His recent performance reminded us all of the power of music to bring people together. Seeing the 6th graders join in the singing was a testament to Tom's amazing ability to connect with every student. We are so grateful to the PTO for their continued support in bringing world-class enrichment programs to our campus.

A New Tiger Tradition is Born!

We are thrilled to celebrate the success of Washington’s very first Battle of the Books! This exciting event brought our students together for a high-energy celebration of reading and teamwork. A massive thank you goes to our librarian, Brian Kurzynski, for his vision and hard work in organizing this program. We are so proud of our Tigers for diving into their reading lists with such spirit—we can’t wait to see this tradition grow for years to come!

STEM Club Ambassadors Take Flight

We are thrilled to announce that our first-ever STEM Club Ambassadors officially gathered for their inaugural meeting in the library this week!

This group of curious 4th through 6th-grade students are embarking on an exciting mission. As Ambassadors, they will become our resident experts on all things innovation. Throughout the year, they’ll dive deep into our school’s collection of STEM equipment, kits, and high-tech "doodads," mastering everything from robotics to circuit building.

The Goal: Once these leaders have mastered the gear, they’ll be helping to share that knowledge and excitement with their fellow students across the school.

Stay tuned to see what these young scientists, engineers, and tech-wizards create next!

A Slam Dunk Assembly!!

A huge shoutout to Coach Hockett and the UWSP Women’s Basketball team for bringing their incredible energy to our school assembly this week!

The team didn't just get us fired up with their spirit—they shared powerful lessons on what it means to lead with courage, both on the court and in our daily lives. Whether it's taking the game-winning shot or standing up for a friend, our students walked away inspired to play big and dream even bigger.

Thank you, Pointers, for being such amazing role models for our school community!!!
