The Holiday Season
Mineola ISD Board of Trustees,
I hope each of you had a wonderful Thanksgiving and enjoyed time with family and friends. I always appreciate Thanksgiving Break—it tends to be a bit calmer than the Christmas and New Year holidays. Tomorrow we begin the final three-week push toward the end of the fall semester. Our enrollment is at a record high, and student attendance has remained very strong through the first two nine-week grading periods.
This week will be a busy one for UIL activities. On Wednesday, the Intermediate Campus will host the District 15-AAA UIL Academic Meet for our 3rd–5th grade students. Mrs. Ray, Mr. Knabenshue, Mrs. Shine, and Mr. Kelley have all done an excellent job supporting their coaches and student participants as they prepare for numerous events.
Also on Wednesday, Mr. Cox will lead Act 2 and Company into the UIL One-Act Play competition at Quitman High School. Our Middle School Theatre Program has grown tremendously in size, and we have high expectations for these students as they represent Mineola ISD.
I also want to share an email from Mr. Roy Shockey regarding volunteer opportunities for the Salvation Army bell ringing campaign. This is a great way to support local families in need during the Christmas season while visiting with members of our community at Brookshire’s or Wal-Mart.
I hope each of you has a great week. As a reminder, you all have access to my Google Calendar to view upcoming meetings and events. If you need help locating it or getting set up to view it, please let me know—I’m happy to assist.
Thank you again for your leadership and for all you do to make Mineola a great place to live.

Happenings Around the District and Community
Wood County Airport Runway Expansion
Recently, the Wood County Airport held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the expansion of its runway from 4,000 feet to 5,000 feet—an upgrade that now allows regional jet traffic to utilize the facility. As a member of the Wood County Economic Development Commission, I had the opportunity to join several guests in attending this important event.
State Champions!
The State Marching Band Contest rarely disappoints! I am so proud of the Directors and Students that comprise the Sound of the Swarm. This is now their 5th State Championship in Class 3A UIL Marching Band! A dynasty has been created!
Family Thanksgiving
It was great seeing so many families on campus the Thursday prior to Thanksgiving Break enjoying lunch with their children. A school performs at its highest level when the community, school, and families are supporting the students.
