School News
Dear Cambridge Elementary Community,
It was another great week at CES! Across all grade levels, I have seen so many inspiring examples of our students living out our core school expectations: Stay Kind, Be Accepting, and Work Hard.
This week, our Student Council truly embodied what it means to lead with kindness and initiative. To ensure that recess games remain fun, safe, and fair for everyone, student representatives stepped up to establish clear, common expectations for playing GaGa Ball.
Our student leaders went above and beyond by:
Drafting Game Rules & Etiquette: Crafting clear expectations so that every player agrees on fair play, respectful spectating, and sportsmanship.
Creating an Instructional Video: Filming and editing a video to demonstrate proper game technique, safety guidelines, and pit etiquette.
Presenting to the Whole School: Visiting every lunch period throughout the week to share their video, explain the guidelines, and answer questions directly from their peers.
Watching our student leaders guide their schoolmates with so much enthusiasm was a shining example of student empowerment in action. A special thank you to Sarah Boucher and our dedicated Student Council members for their leadership and commitment to making CES a safe, welcoming, and fun place to learn and play!
Sincerely,
Kim Lesny
Picture Re-Take Day: Wednesday, November 18, starting at 8am
If someone is having a retake because it is poor expression, then they return the original set and we exchange the photos at no extra cost. If someone is having a retake because they didn't like their hair or clothing choice that day, then they return the original set of photos and pay half price for their new set.
Our Halloween costume parade will take place on Friday, October 30th! The parade will begin immediately following our Celebration of Learners assembly- which will be close to 9:00 AM. We will march from CES along School St. to Main St. and will return to CES via Carleton Avenue. We hope that you can join us along the parade route!
Please help your child to pick an appropriate costume. Here are some guidelines:
- No face masks or full face paint. We need to be able to visually identify students in costumes.
- Costumes that depict violence are not permitted.
- Any weapons or other props are not permitted.
- Costumes should not hinder your ability to participate in classes.
In the event of inclement weather, the parade will take place in the CES gym.

Stay Connected! Districtwide Communication Test – November 6
As winter approaches, Lamoille North wants to make sure our families are receiving important school communications, including weather-related closures, delays, safety notifications, and student updates.
On Friday, November 6 at 6:00 PM, we'll conduct a districtwide test of our communication system. Families can expect to receive a test message through phone, email, Infinite Campus inbox, and text message (if activated).
We encourage all parents and guardians to take a few moments before November 6 to review their contact information in the Infinite Campus Parent Portal. Text messaging is a great way to receive timely updates, but families must activate this feature to receive messages.
Strong school-to-home communication is essential, and we appreciate your help in keeping our families informed, connected, and prepared!
To Complete the Annual Update Process:
- Log in to your Infinite Campus Parent Portal Account.
- In the left menu, select More → Online Registration Update, and click Start next to Annual Update Forms.
- Be sure to click SUBMIT when finished.
If you don’t yet have a Parent Portal account, email IC-support@lnsd.org for assistance.

As part of a statewide contest, CES is naming one of the bright orange snow plows that will be out on Vermont roads this winter!
Students and staff members submitted choices to add to the list of choices. Now, we all get to vote on our favorite! Please vote only once. Voting will be open until the end of the day on 10/29.
The name that we choose will be displayed on one of the VT Agency of Transportation plow trucks, along with our school name. The truck will even make a special stop at CES!

Feeling the Winter Blues? You’re Not Alone.
Winter can feel heavy - shorter days, colder weather, less time outside, and changes in routine can affect mood and energy. It’s normal to notice shifts in how you’re feeling during this time of year.
Some signs to watch for include:
- Feeling more tired than usual
- Losing interest in things you usually enjoy
- Feeling down, irritable, or disconnected
- Sleeping more (or less) than usual
- Wanting to isolate or withdraw from others
If these feelings last more than a couple of weeks, or start to interfere with school, friendships, or daily life, it’s important to reach out. Talking with a trusted adult, school counselor, coach, or friend can make a real difference.
Small things can help too - staying connected, getting outside when possible, keeping a routine, and doing something kind for yourself or someone else. You don’t have to handle it alone.
