Volunteer Opportunity!
Happy April,
The 5th graders from Madison will be completing a scavenger hunt at Saint Could State University on May 11 from 9:30 am to 1:45 pm. This will take them to the Planetarium, the Library, and The Recreation Center on campus. Their questions about the University will be answered, as well as some Science, Literacy, Math, and Physical Education activities sprinkled throughout the day. We are excited to ask parents, guardians, and other family members to chaperone. If you are interested, please reach out to your student’s homeroom teacher after you complete the following steps:
- Go to the district website: https://communityed.isd742.org/community-involvement/volunteer-services
- Scroll Down to the Become a Volunteer Section in the grey box
- Complete the 3 steps listed within the grey box(this includes a background check and an email link that will be sent to you when the form is completed)
- Received a final email saying you are approved through the background check process
Once these steps are completed, you will receive more information regarding next steps to chaperone our SCSU field trip. If you have any further questions, please reach out to your student’s homeroom teacher. We hope to have a fun and amazing day!
Testing season is officially here! The Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments (MCA) provide a fantastic opportunity for our students to showcase the impressive skills and knowledge they’ve built throughout the school year.
Please review the schedule below for your student's specific testing dates and times. To help our scholars feel confident and perform their best, here are some essential tips for the night before and the morning of the big day!
🌙 The Night Before: Setting the Stage
Preparation starts with a calm evening and a good night's rest.
Early to Bed: Aim for at least 8–10 hours of sleep. A well-rested brain processes information much faster and stays focused longer.
Keep it Low-Key: Avoid heavy homework or stressful activities. Spend the evening relaxing, reading for fun, or playing a board game to keep anxiety levels low.
Prep the Night Before: Lay out clothes and pack backpacks ahead of time. Reducing "morning-of" decisions prevents rushing and keeps the mood calm.
Positive Talk: Remind them that they are prepared and that this is just a chance to show what they know. Use "growth mindset" language: "You've worked hard all year, and I'm proud of your effort."
The hallways are buzzing with excitement as we gear up for our upcoming concerts! Ms. Kruse and Ms. Ryan have been working joyfully with our students, preparing them to truly shine on stage.
To make sure you don't miss a beat, please see the performance schedule below. Our doors will open 15 minutes prior to each show, giving you plenty of time to find your favorite seats and settle in before the music begins. We can't wait to share this special experience with you!
Spring is in the air, which means field trip season is officially here! We have several exciting outings planned, and we want to make sure our students are comfortable and ready for adventure.
Please keep an eye on your child’s specific trip dates so you can help them prepare. Your child's teacher will be sending out updates soon, but in the meantime, here is a quick checklist to help our explorers stay safe and happy:
Step into Comfort: Sturdy, closed-toe shoes are a must for walking and exploring.
Stay Hydrated: Please send a water bottle along with your student.
Sun Safety: If the trip is outdoors, please apply sunscreen at home on the morning of the trip.
Check the Forecast: Spring weather can be unpredictable! Please ensure your child is dressed in layers appropriate for the day's weather.
We are looking forward to some wonderful learning experiences outside the classroom!
Warmly,
Lisa Doucet, RN Licensed School Nurse
