A Letter From the School Counselor
Disability Awareness: Understanding, Respecting, and Supporting One Another
Disability awareness means recognizing, respecting, and supporting individuals with physical, learning, developmental, and mental health disabilities. Everyone deserves inclusion, dignity, and understanding.
Social media platforms like TikTok can raise awareness, but they can also spread misleading information. Watching videos about ADHD, autism, anxiety, or other conditions does not mean you have a diagnosis. Symptoms can overlap, and self-diagnosing based on online content can lead to misunderstandings.
Disabilities are not trends, costumes, or personalities to imitate. We acknowledge disabilities, respect those who experience them, and never pretend to have them for attention or social media content.
If something you see online relates to your experiences, speak with a trusted adult or qualified mental health professional rather than assuming you have a condition.
