πŸ’― Cumulative Assessments for ELA, Math, and Science πŸ’― Cumulative Assessments for ELA, Math, and Science

As part of our preparation for the upcoming TCAP and EOC assessments, our Curriculum & Instruction Department is releasing sample cumulative formative assessments for ELA, Math, and Science. These assessments are available to provide additional TCAP and EOC type practice items to integrate into Tier 1. Administration of these as practice tests is not required but leaders and teacher may consider the following:

  1. Integrate into lesson opening-closing or independent practice time
  2. Identify the opportunity standards aligned with your student needs and administer a practice assessment, include review during small group or partner time
  3. Share assessment items as homework to highlight for families, test taking strategies and steps for reinforcing positive study habits
  4. Include within small group remediation or enrichment opportunities, which can include teacher led small group, collaborative groups, or partner practice

SAVVAS Envision: Elementary Teacher and Student Actions

Throughout the 24-25 school year and in the years to come, Curriculum & Instruction Mathematics strives to support the implementation of district-adopted curriculum and remove the barriers created and perpetuated by a linear approach to the gradual release of responsibility in mathematics instruction. Student actions and teacher actions designed to be enacted in classroom instruction are critical to helping students build mathematical knowledge and skills. The visuals below were taken from the online SAVVAS Envision resources and serve as a reminder of the necessary actions needed to deepen student conceptual development:

To support schools and teachers around addressing and or reteaching standards that need additional support based on recent TCAP, iReady, and or network CFA an ELA Standards Toolkit has been curated. This toolkit provides schools with ease of access to a variety of standards resources. These resources include support for deepening teachers’ understanding of the expectations of the standards, support for identifying where the standards live in the ELA curriculum and provide standards specific assessment and reteach practice items. Click here to access the toolkit.

With one semester of engagement in course curriculum and standards behind us, students' academic experiences can be extended by identifying and solving a real-world complex problem. We are eager to launch a strategically designed, standards-aligned extension of the District-adopted curricula, so that all 6th-grade Math and Algebra 1 educators are empowered to structure, plan, and engage students in completing this mastery focused task.
