Carline Safety - Please Follow Established Guidelines for Everyone's Safety

Our Carline is a very precise and purposeful process - both morning and afternoon. The unique boundaries of our building and the roadways do not allow for through traffic during arrival or dismissal. When dropping off children during arrival - all cars must remain in the line to follow the flow of traffic. When given guidance by our staff, please follow their lead and direction. DO NOT drive around waiting vehicles or Ignore requests to stop as we take turns filling the circle. Not only is this for the safety of our attendants, but it is for the safety of our walking children and on-coming traffic heading in the other direction. Please remain patient and plan accordingly if in a hurry.

Halloween - Planning and Preparations

Plans are set and communications were emailed for our Halloween festivities - taking place in the AM of Tuesday, October 31st, outdoors on school property. Please carpool or enjoy a morning walk with neighbors as parking will be very limited. Please review the map (attached link to the school email from 10/18) to know where to stand and the parade route. In the event of poor weather, the outdoor parade will be cancelled, but students will parade indoors across grade levels only (parties will proceed as planned).

Please note this is a half-day for students. For our Kindergarten Families, PM Kindergarten is reporting in the morning to school on the 31st. Therefore, our AM students will hold their parade on Monday morning, October 30th.

Electronic Devices from Home

At the start of the new school year, the Superintendent shared CBSD Policy that all student cell phones/watches are to remain off during the school day - K-12. Please know that any students who bring in cell phones to Butler are required to leave in backpacks (turned off) and do not have access during the school day. Likewise, some of our students have watches that connect to phones and/or directly to a data source. The rule remains the same, so please know that if any device interferes with the classroom/learning/recess/etc., students will be directed to keep items home. Remember, parents may always contact the school office to relay/share a message for your child throughout the school day. Thank you for your cooperation and support.

CBSD Attendance Letter

Regular school attendance is necessary for a successful school experience. Instructional continuity is interrupted when a student is frequently absent, tardy, or dismissed early from school. Understanding that regular attendance in school is necessary for students to gain maximum benefits from public education, the Central Bucks School District urges all parents/guardians to stress punctuality and regular attendance habits with their children. Please read Important Updates from the CBSD Attendance Letter - Click Here.

Please review the "Managing Student Attendance Plan" from CB.

The Reading Corner - Library News!

After listening to the story, Goldisocks and the Three Libearians, third graders practiced using Goldisocks’ Five Finger Test to help determine “just right” chapter books in the library. The students opened a chapter book to a random full page of words and put up one finger for each word they did not know. Four-five fingers up means the book is “too hard.” Zero-one fingers up means the book is “too easy.” Two-three fingers up means the book should be “just right!”

"Staying Active" in Physical Education!

The first unit of the year for all grades was personal responsibility. Students in different grades did different activities, but all grades did getting to know you activities and practiced recess games such as GAGA, 4-square, run the bases, and red light/green light. Classes discussed the importance of showing responsibility by playing fair, following the rules, and being respectful to their classmates and the adults at recess. 6th grade also did a frisbee unit, which included ultimate frisbee. Several 6th grade students are participating in the after-school ultimate frisbee club!

The Art Pallette - Updates from Mrs. Casey

Fifth grade artists are currently exploring how to use paint and chalk pastel to create value. In this vibrant underwater scene, artists demonstrate how to blend analogous colors and make value. They create a tint of one color by adding white and a shade of another color by adding black. The value created with tints and shades in the background is layered with white paint splatters for bubbles. Finally, students created contrast with chalk pastel jellyfish and seaweed.

9.1.5.A: Know and use the elements and principles of each art form to create works in the arts and humanities. Elements: color, form/shape, line, space, texture, value. Principles: balance, contrast, emphasis/focal point, movement/rhythm, proportion/scale, repetition, unity/harmony

9.1.5.C: Know and use fundamental vocabulary within each of the arts forms.

Town Hall Meeting - Butler Attribute: Understanding

On Monday, October 16th, Butler Elementary hosted an informative "Town Hall" Assembly. At our Town Hall Meetings, we discuss our school-wide expectations about our Butler Pledge and the important attributes of our school. The "U" in Butler stands for "Understanding" and was the topic of our conversations. Community member and parent, Mrs. Nedza, took time to speak about some of her life challenges and the importance of showing understanding and respect for all people of varying abilities. Students also learned about a boy named Ezra in a video who grew-up with a life condition - and is now a para-olympic champion! It was a powerful Town Hall and students gained new appreciation for Understanding.

Fire Prevention and Safety Week - 10/11

Students in our primary grades got a special visit from Chalfont Volunteer Fire Department and their crew who spoke about fire prevention safety and ways to "have a plan" if ever caught in an emergency. As part of Fire Prevention Week, our young learners got an up-close look at a real firetruck and firefighting equipment. They even received valuable lessons on how to respond in case of a fire, making them more aware and prepared for emergency situations. Thank you to the Chalfont Volunteer Fire Department for taking the time to educate our students about fire safety.
