    Dress Code Reminder

A reminder that Spirit Week is over and we are returning to our regular dress code. This means no hats, pajamas, blankets or slippers. Please see details of our dress code below.

    Welcome to Franklin, Dr. Forletta!

We'd like to extend a heartful welcome to our new Assistant Principal, Dr. Forletta! She joins the Franklin Family after serving as a teacher and administrator across Michigan, Nevada, and even Alaska. Dr. Forletta will introduce herself to our students and families shortly, but we wanted to be sure to warmly accept her into our halls and classrooms during her first Franklin week!

    Walk Your Wheels!

A message to all our bike and scooter riders: please "walk your wheels" once you are on campus. Students, staff, and families need to be able to walk safely on our Franklin campus and riding between people and cars creates a dangerous situation for everyone. Please be safe and walk your bikes and scooters to the appropriate areas once you've arrived to school, and please do not ride them until you are on the public sidewalks. Thank you for keeping it safe out there, Hornets!

Shouts Out to our Students and Staff Member of the Week!

We want to give a BIG shout out to our three students of the week and our staff member of the week! In the month of NOVEMBER our behavior focus is KINDNESS. These students were selected by a staff member because they are so KIND.

Our 6th grade student of the week is Joseph Price selected by Mrs. Clark.

Our 7th grade student of the week is Aubrey White selected by Mr. Heitjan.

And our 8th grade student of the week is Jaden Flowers selected by Mrs. Elliott.

Each one of the students was allowed to choose a staff member here at FMS that best displays the behavior focus of the month. The three staff members selected were…

    1. Ms. Fuqua selected by Joseph

    2. Mrs. Adams selected by Aubrey

    3. Mr. Cabble selected Jaden

We put all three names in a drawing and pulled the winning staff member’s name for the week. This week’s staff member of the week is…… MS. FUQUA!

Congratulations to all of the students of the week and the staff member of the week! The spotlight will be on you all this week on WFMS and around FMS!

    NJHS Continues to Impress

🎃Franklin NJHS showed up at Taft’s Trunk-or-Treat—and absolutely crushed it!🐝

Our National Junior Honor Society students worked hard, welcomed families, and brought kindness and energy to the evening. They helped make the event special for Taft’s students and showed what giving back to our community looks like.

We couldn’t be prouder of how they represented Franklin! Thank you to our students, the families who supported them, and Taft Elementary for welcoming us. Go Hornets!

🏀 Franklin Athletics: Basketball Season is Almost Here!

Important Update: Admission to Home Athletic Events

Hornets families, basketball season is right around the corner, and we cannot wait to welcome you into the gym to cheer on our student-athletes!

Beginning with the 2026–2027 basketball season, Franklin Middle School will begin charging admission to our home athletic events. This is part of a consistent ticketing process across our district's middle schools.

With our first basketball games approaching the week of November 9, we want to make sure every family has the information needed before arriving.

    🎫Admission Information🎫

    $3.00 per person, per event

    • Admission is $3 for school-age children through adults under age 62.

    • Children ages 5 and younger are admitted FREE.

    • Adults ages 62 and older are admitted FREE.

    • Special events and tournaments may have different admission requirements.

📲 Two Convenient Ways to Purchase Tickets

    Option 1: Purchase in Advance

Families can purchase digital tickets before arriving at the game through GoFan.

We have included a Franklin Athletics Ticket Information flyer with this announcement. The flyer contains a QR code that will take families directly to our ticket purchasing information.

Purchasing ahead of time is encouraged to make entering our athletic events quicker and easier!

Option 2: Purchase at the Door

Tickets will also be available for purchase when you arrive at the game.

Please remember: All purchases must be made using a credit or debit card. Cash will not be accepted.

    📋Important Game-Day Reminders

To help us provide a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone:

    • All children in elementary school and younger must be accompanied by an adult.

    • Backpacks and bags are not permitted at athletic events.

    • Screenshots of digital tickets will not be accepted for admission. Please have your actual digital ticket available.

💚💛Let's Fill the Stands, Hornets! 💛💚

Our student-athletes have been working hard, and there is nothing better than seeing our Franklin community come together to support them!

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we introduce this ticketing process. We encourage all families to review the attached flyer, save it for future reference, and share the information with anyone planning to attend our home games.

We look forward to seeing you in the stands!

    📣🐝 Franklin Cheer Is Back!

2026–2027 Winter Cheer Season | Franklin Middle School

    Calling All Future Franklin Cheerleaders!

Get ready to bring the energy, excitement, and HORNET PRIDE! We are excited to announce that Franklin Middle School Cheer is returning for the 2026–2027 winter season!

Under the leadership of Coach Smith, our cheerleaders will have the opportunity to build confidence, develop new skills, make friendships, and represent Franklin while supporting BOTH our Boys and Girls Basketball teams!

This year, we are introducing a shorter, more focused cheer season that gives students plenty of opportunities to learn, practice, and perform without committing to the entirety of both basketball seasons.

    Important Dates to Know!

    CHEER CAMP — NOVEMBER 4, 6 & 11

Whether your student has cheered before or is interested in trying something new, Cheer Camp is a great place to start!

During camp, Coach Smith will focus on:

    • Basic cheer motions and technique

    • Voice projection and enthusiasm

    • Building strength and improving skills

    • Confidence and teamwork

    • Learning the official tryout cheer

    • Preparing for tryouts!

No previous cheer experience is necessary! We want students to come ready to learn, work hard, and have fun!

    OFFICIAL CHEER TRYOUTS

    Friday, November 13, 2026

There will be ONE official tryout day for the winter cheer season.

    IMPORTANT PHYSICAL REMINDER!

All students planning to try out MUST have an active sports physical on file and verified before November 13.

Students without a verified physical will NOT be permitted to participate in tryouts.

Please take care of this requirement early so your student is ready!

    Practice Schedule

Once the team is selected, practices will take place:

    Every Wednesday and Friday
    2:50–5:00 PM
    Franklin Middle School

First Official Practice: Wednesday, November 18

Because we are practicing only twice per week, attendance, participation, and commitment will be especially important!

    FAMILY PICKUP REMINDER

All cheerleaders MUST be picked up promptly at 5:00 PM following practice.

Coach Smith has additional professional responsibilities immediately after practice, so families must make arrangements for reliable, on-time transportation.

We appreciate your cooperation and support!

    Cell Phone Policy

All wireless communication devices (including, but not limited to, smart phones, cell phones, airpods, tablets, and smart watches) must be turned off or locked in the student's locker during class time.

To be clear, research shows there is no educational, social, or emotional benefit to a student having a cell phone or headphones/earbuds/etc. in our building. It only serves as a distraction or catalyst to inappropriate behavior.

Certain allowances are made for medical reasons, but those must be coordinated with administration.
Students that violate the no cell phone policy during class time will receive progressive discipline which includes:

    • First Offense: Tracked warning

    • Second Offense: Phone brought down to the office by student or behavior coach, parent communication, student picks up phone at end of day.

    • Third Offense: Phone brought down to the office by student or behavior coach, parent communication, parent pickup.

    • Fourth Offense: Phone brought down to the office by student or behavior coach, parent communication, parent pickup, and cell phone “detention” (student brings phone to office every day and pickup at end of day for a predetermined amount of time).

    • Fifth Offense: May result in ISS/OSS. Any beyond five offenses will result in progressive discipline.

If you need to reach your student during the school day you must reach out to the front office.

    Dress Code Policy

The style and manner in which a student dresses while they attends school shall be the responsibility of their parents. Parental discretion shall be the major criteria for student dress.

The District, however, maintains the right to impose reasonable restrictions on dress for the following reasons:

If the style of dress or grooming is disruptive to the educational process or is detrimental to the health, safety, or welfare of the student or other students with whom he/she attends school.

Students, together with their parents, have the responsibility to dress and groom themselves in a manner appropriate for school. Principals have the responsibility and right to interpret the Dress Handbook in a consistent, fair and reasonable manner.

This list is not exhaustive and includes, but is not limited to:

    1. Safe footwear must be worn at all times.
    2. Clothing for school will cover the shoulders to mid-thigh.
    3. Hats or headgear (other than for religious or medical reasons) are not to be worn inside the building.
    4. Sunglasses are not to be worn inside the building.
    5. Pajamas, slippers, underwear that is exposed, halter-tops, bare midriffs, bare sides, sheer articles of clothing, low cut tops or skirts/shorts that do not reach below one’s fingertips, and t-shirts with drug or alcohol literature are examples of clothing not permitted.
    6. Clothing, jewelry or accessories that denote membership in a group which advocates drug use, violence, or disruptive behavior or that promote inappropriate or illegal behavior, indicate profanity or unacceptable language/double meanings, are not to be worn.
    7. Wallet chains and other forms of chains over 6 inches in length are not permitted nor are spiked jewelry.
