It’s time to start selecting courses for the 2026-2027 school year. The Course Request Window will open by grade level according to the dates below. Please make sure to log into your Synergy/StudentVue account to select your courses during your course request window:

  • Current 11th graders: January 31 - February 5

  • Current 10th graders: February 7 - 12

  • Current 9th graders: February 21 - 26

As students in each grade level are selecting courses, we may find that some Electives are reaching a maximum capacity based on class size limitations. These courses will close for registration for the next grade level, and we will add them to an interest list. Students can indicate their interest in taking the class on the Course Interest List if any spots become available.

In an effort to build our CTE pathways, certain courses will be designated for freshman and sophomore students. Honors Introduction to Engineering Design, Honors Principles of Engineering,

Honors Principles of Biomedical Science and Business Principles & Strategies will be reserved for freshman and sophomore enrollment. Should a Junior or Senior want this course, they should indicate their desire to take the course on the Course Interest List.

Courses that have reached maximum capacity and are available on the Course Interest List:

AP Chemistry/Honors Chemistry

AP Environmental Science 1-2

AP Psychology

Honors Computer Integrated Manufacturing 1-2

Honors Digital Electronics 1-2

Honors Human Body Systems 1-2

Honors Medical Interventions 1-2

The following courses will no longer be offered next year:

CTE Pathways CTE Pathways

As an integral part of the entire educational program, Career Technical Education in Poway Unified School District offers academically challenging technical courses and programs. These courses and programs are comprehensive and future-oriented, are responsive to student, parent, community and workforce development needs, and are proven to positively affect student achievement.

In order to become a pathway completer, a student must complete 20 credits in both a concentrator and capstone course OR two capstone courses in the same pathway. Students who achieve CTE Pathway Completion will receive a certificate, a notation on their transcript, and a special diploma seal for each pathway they complete. The following pathways are offered at Westview High School.

Dual Enrollment Courses Dual Enrollment Courses

Dual Enrollment allows high school students to take college courses and earn college credit in both academic and career subjects. Colleges and universities often grant college credit to students who successfully complete dual enrollment courses, which can reduce the number of semesters needed to earn a degree. This can save money on tuition, room and board, and student loans. Research shows that students who participate in dual enrollment are more likely to graduate high school, enroll in college, and earn a college degree.

Earning college credit while still in high school can be extremely rewarding, as it not only allows students to get a head start on their degrees, but also exposes them to the rigors of college courses. Additionally, these programs give students the opportunity to demonstrate their readiness for college life and academics to college admissions committees.

AVID offers rigorous academic support and strong connections to Westview and our community which is great for all students so we look to include as many students as possible.

Being part of AVID also takes hard work and perseverance so the most important criteria that we look for are determination and strong motivation to attend a 4-year college.

Other criteria we use to ensure AVID is a good fit for students include students who are 1st generation college-going, part of traditionally underserved populations, experiencing circumstances that make achievement difficult, and are academically viable.

AVID STUDENTS ARE:

  • Critical Thinkers

  • College Bound

  • Determined

  • Digital Citizens

  • Connected

Current 9th graders

Students currently in 9th grade can still apply for the AVID program. Please visit the AVID website for more information.

What's the difference between College Prep vs. Honors vs. AP courses?

What exactly is an A-G College Prep Elective?

In the A-G requirements, category G is listed as a College Prep Elective. At Westview we offer several courses that meet the G category, such as Psychology or Sociology; however, there is another way to meet this requirement. You may use a course that exceeds the minimum amount of coursework in a certain subject area from the A-F categories. For example, if 3 years of math are required, a 4th year of math can count as a College Prep Elective. Refer to the course catalog to find what A-G category a course falls under and if it can meet the G category as well.

Repeating a D or F grade

4-year colleges and universities do not accept grades of D or F. In most cases, you will need to repeat any A-G class in which you earned a grade of D or F. Please see your Counselor to discuss your options for repeating a class.

Thinking of skipping a level of math or taking a summer math course outside PUSD?

Our recommendation is to not skip a level of math. PUSD does not currently have any approved Integrated Math classes through outside schools or programs that will be accepted for credit. If a student takes something over the summer it will not be on their PUSD transcript. More importantly, if a student signs up for the higher level next year and realizes it was not the correct placement, they are not guaranteed a spot in the previous level, as there may not be space available.

Specific to Integrated Math II: Aside from the mathematical instruction and curriculum reasons against skipping Integrated II, there is a college requirement component, as well. The UC system requires that students take a geometry-based math course as part of their 3-year math sequence. They consider Integrated Math II to be this course in the integrated sequence. We have been advising students against skipping Integrated Math II for this reason in particular. We do not want students to find that when they apply for college that they do not meet the UC requirements because they did not take Integrated II. More information can be found in the UC Counselor Reference Guide.

Taking a class outside of Westview?

A limited number of outside courses are approved for credit through PUSD. Approval forms must be completed PRIOR to starting the course. Please see our Registrar, Mrs. Carroll for more information.

If you are taking a foreign language course outside of Westview, you will need to complete the Application and Authorization Form for Foreign Language Credit PRIOR to beginning the class.

CA State Seal of Biliteracy

The California State Seal of Biliteracy is a form of recognition from the State Superintendent of Public Instruction of graduating high students who have attained a high level of proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing in one or more languages in addition to English. It recognizes the value of biliteracy as a 21st century skill.

Students only apply in the spring of their senior year of high school. For additional questions, please visit the CA State Seal of Biliteracy page on our website or speak with your counselor.
