Principal Update Principal Update

Dear Y.E.S. Families,

Last Day of School
As we communicated in January, York Elementary School’s final day of school will be on May 13, 2026 with a 2:10 dismissal. The Board of Education has made this change so that school staff can safely move equipment and materials prior to construction coming into our building.

Next school year, students and staff will be completely separate from the construction areas. A temporary wall will be built to separate the construction zones and school zones. While school will look different, student and staff safety will continue to be our top priority. As next school year gets closer, we will communicate changes.

Parent Teacher Conferences
It’s hard to believe we’re already preparing for our second Parent-Teacher Conferences of the year! Conferences are a great opportunity for parents and teachers to work together.

If you have concerns or questions about your child’s progress, please bring them to conferences! Here are some examples of questions you may want to ask:

  • Is my child meeting grade-level expectations?

  • How does my child handle difficult tasks in the classroom?

  • How does my child interact with peers?

  • How does my child respond to feedback, frustration, or setbacks?

  • Is my child able to follow classroom rules and routines?

  • Does my child show respect and cooperation with teachers and classmates?

  • Are there additional skills we should be practicing at home?

We want your Parent-Teacher Conference to provide a meaningful glimpse into your child’s day at Y.E.S. Thank you for your partnership in supporting their growth and success!

Y.E.S. Project Update
Progress is moving full-steam ahead! The new preschool and kindergarten classrooms are currently being completed. The preschool area has started to get drywall up and the kindergarten area is finalizing underground mechanical work and will have a floor poured soon. Work continues to happen on the exterior as well -- steel beams and decking will be finished by the end of the school year on the additions to our current building on both the south and east side of our building. This year has included many fun teaching moments about our project!

As always, please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns. We appreciate your support and look forward to finishing the year strong together!

Thanks from York Student Ambassadors and YES! Thanks from York Student Ambassadors and YES!

Thank you to everyone who donated to the York Adopt A Pet Dog and Cat Treat Drive! It was a great success and they were very appreciative of our donation. I am particularly proud of the students who put it together and came up with an idea to support our community partners.

Thanks again for all your help!
