Last Week's Highlights Last Week's Highlights

It was wonderful to spend time with your children last week! During Wednesday's prayer service, they were reverent. They have quickly fallen back into school routines, like lining up in numerical order and traveling quietly through the hallways. They embraced the organizational system we created for them with the color coded copybooks and file portfolios. They looked FANTASTIC in their clean, white shirts and new shoes. Lastly, they have been receptive (and very successful) to practicing the new routines that we will use during our WIN (and class periods) this year. Our first three days were GREAT!

This Week... This Week...

In this section each week, we will highlight any special activities or schedule changes.

Google Classroom Codes Google Classroom Codes

If needed, students will join the respective Google Classrooms this week. They are welcome to do so over the weekend if they want.

Students can easily log into their SKS Google Account, go to Google Classroom, and input the classroom codes:

Religion: 2nuh7wr6

Math At Level: n3najlo2

Math (Honors): axolzmzt

Sixth Grade Homeroom: k3lr5ah

Dress Code Dress Code

Students should be dressed in the correct uniform every day. If there is an extenuating circumstance, please contact your student's homeroom teacher.

Wednesday is gym day for Mrs. Jones' homeroom, while Mrs. Morrissey's homeroom has gym on Fridays.

Chromebooks Chromebooks

This week, students will be expected to use their Chromebooks during classes. We understand that there are a few extenuating circumstances, but at this point most students should have them every day in school.

Please take a moment to set a charging routine at home. Perhaps your child can charge their device near their backpack. It is important to charge Chromebooks at home every night because we do not have enough outlets to accommodate everyone's device. Also, we do not have Chromebook chargers on hand in the classrooms.

Pick Up Patrol Pick Up Patrol

Thank you for setting default plans in PickUp Patrol, as well as updating them when needed. It has greatly cut down on the number of emails that we receive during the course of the day.

If you haven't set up a default plan, please do so as soon as possible!

Birthdays Birthdays

If you haven't heard, we asked the students to line up in birthday order silently on the first day of school. It was awesome to watch them work! The activity is a true testament to how well they know each other!

In Sixth Grade, we celebrate each child's birthday with a small gift. If your child wants to bring a birthday treat to celebrate, please make sure that it is one of the foods on the approved food list. The list was updated over the summer, so please be sure to check the school handbook before sending the food to school. Also, we like to celebrate as one class community, so be sure to send in enough for 29 students.

Last week, we got to know each other through various activities. Students presented their All About Me flip books! We established expectations and procedures in ELA class.

This week, students will kickoff the week with a StarBOOKS tasting (shhhhhh!), participate in various activities to build our community of writers, and complete grammar and reading pre-tests.

PLEASE NOTE - During the StarBOOKS tasting, students will be able to choose a snack: Original Kellogg's Rice Krispie Treat or Snyder's Gluten Free Pretzels, per the updated school food policy. Lemonade and water will also be served.

Last week, we spent time setting an intention for the year. All students have chosen a focus word for the year. They are hanging up outside our classroom, so please check them out when you visit! Students received their Religion books, which will stay in Room 11. The book will typically only come home before a test or quiz.

This week, students will write about a time or place that makes them feel close to God. This is their first homework assignment of the year. It is on Google Classroom, and it is due on Friday, September 12th. We will review the Liturgical Calendar of the Church this week, with a specific focus on Ordinary Time. Then, students will learn the steps to becoming a saint through a digital activity.

Welcome to both math classes! The students began checking their Simple Solutions summer work. Both classes will be tested on this on Thursday, 9/11. They will be asked to copy their answers from their workbooks on to an answer sheet. This will be the first graded assignment.

When/If we get the IXL contract renewed, I will check that part of the summer work. IXL has offered to renew the contract without $$ now since the PA budget impasse means our book purchases are being held up.

I have really enjoyed getting to know your children this week! They came to science class with great enthusiasm and curiosity. The main focus of our short week was to get to know each other, set expectations for the year, and learn about science lab safety. Many have already gotten their syllabus signed, so thank you for doing that! Everyone will also need to get the safety contract signed. The students are aware that if they do not follow the lab safety rules they will be asked to sit out of science lab the following week.

Please ask your child if they have joined my Google Classroom, and if they have any papers you need to sign.

A successful school year takes a partnership between parents and teachers, so thank you for your support at home!

Please feel free to email me with any questions or if there is anything I need to know about your child. I am very excited for a great year with them!
