Dear Friends,

A recent newsletter to Knights of Columbus Chaplains placed an emphasis on conversion through fasting and listening. I found the invitation humbling.

‘Pope Leo invites the faithful to especially abstain this Lent from giving voice to words that offend and hurt others: “Let us begin by disarming our language, avoiding harsh words and rash judgment, refraining from slander and speaking ill of those who are not present and cannot defend themselves.” This cultivation of kindness and respect in our language should also apply to our interactions on social media, in the workplace, and in political debates.’

The Holy Father’s words go back to advice that I’ve given numerous times, but often fail to live out. It’s easy to cast harsh words upon others and put ourselves on the moral high ground. However, it often goes a long way to accept the humility of the moment and offer the suffering of our wounded pride in reparation for our sins and those of the whole world. Countless lives of saints show us that path. After all, Lent is a period of conversion and time to unite ourselves to Jesus in His Passion.

As the world is in great turmoil and chaos, I encourage the use of the Stations of the Cross during Lent as a way of offering to God our petitions for peace in places of violence -the Middle East, Ukraine, Mexico, and other places where innocent victims tragically suffer. This violence and suffering is the fruit of sin. Pray for for Peace.

Beginning Saturday, February 21st, the Sacrament of Reconciliation will be available from 3:00 PM until approximately 3:45 PM at St. Joseph in Waupun.

This schedule will continue indefinitely and will follow the location of the 4:00 PM Mass. Therefore, when the Mass location changes in May, Confession will move to Annunciation in Fox Lake.

For teens and adults, I highly recommend taking the opportunity to visit and pray over this exhibit to better understand the physical and mental anguish our Lord endured for our salvation. For parents, I add that some elements present the brutal details of the Lord's Passion, so do be aware before bringing young children.

A reminder that the Men of Christ Conference is coming Saturday, March 14th. Anyone interested in attending should contact Paul Walz for registration information and transportation.

This fall, we are proud to enter our 10th year of participation in the Wisconsin Parental Choice Program. Through this program, eligible families may attend St. Katharine Drexel School with no cost for tuition. The application period opens on February 2, 2026, and we anticipate having available seats in Kindergarten through 8th grade.
