Letter from the Superintendent

Hello Bellevue Families,

Happy Back to School Month! It is my sincere hope you’ve enjoyed a wonderful summer. This communication is to provide an important update on the ongoing construction projects at our schools and to confirm that school will begin as scheduled on August 13, 2025.

There has been significant progress made over the summer on a number of upgrades aimed at improving safety, accessibility, and the overall learning environment for our students and staff. However, work is not completed on both the Grandview Elementary project or the Bellevue Stadium project causing work to continue into the school year. This work will not interfere with the safety and operations of our buildings and we will be ready to welcome students on the first day of school.

Some specific key construction updates include:

Grandview Elementary School

o The complete project includes a new HVAC and sprinkler system throughout the building, an access control system throughout the building, renovated classrooms to include new lighting, flooring and furnishing, renovated student restrooms, renovated kitchen and cafeteria space, and a brand new gymnasium, as well as updating the curb appeal of the building.

Items that will not be completed at GES by the beginning of the school year:

o Bleachers for the new gymnasium are scheduled to be installed at the end of September and once complete, will be available for use. I cannot wait to share this space with our students and families.

o The playground will be operational at the end of August and in the meantime, students will utilize the park for recess.

o Due to the heat, humidity and lack of air conditioning in the building for the majority of the summer, the flooring was not able to be installed. The students will begin the year with the same flooring as last year.

o It is possible some temporary air conditioners will be utilized if all HVAC hookups are not complete before the first day of school.

There is still much to do in the 12 days before school starts, but crews are working diligently to complete projects, clean, and organize spaces. Due to the construction, our teachers have had little time to be in their classrooms. I know they are anxious to get into their space to create an atmosphere conducive to learning. Please extend them grace as I know they will do all they can to be ready for our students.

We have worked with the building inspector and fire department to ensure safety of our students inside the school. Please be mindful that temporary adjustments may be in place throughout the year to accommodate the ongoing work. If this happens we will be sure to communicate any changes ahead of time.

Bellevue Civic Stadium/Ben Flora Gymnasium

o The project at the athletic complex includes new lobby restrooms, new bleachers, and renovated locker rooms at Ben Flora. Outside, there will be a brand new concession and restroom facility, turf field, rubber track, expanded track facilities, renovated tennis courts, and additional parking. We have been assured the new field will be ready for play before the first home game scheduled for September 12, 2025.

The entire project will be ongoing once school begins and is scheduled for full completion this year.

We look forward to seeing our students and families at the Back to School Bash in Ben Flora Gym on Thursday, August 7 from 5:00-7:00 pm. Our Board of Education members will be manning the grill and our staff is excited to meet with you and assist you so you feel ready to begin the new school year on a positive note. Restrooms inside Ben Flora are not completed, but there will be an air conditioned portable restroom trailer on site. Parking will be extremely limited as the parking lot will be utilized for activities pertaining to our back to school event.

Our top priority remains providing a safe environment for all students and staff and I am so excited about the improvements being made within the district. Despite the inconvenience of construction, I ask for your patience and partnership to ensure a positive start to the school year for all. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have questions or concerns.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the Back to School Bash and kicking off a great year together!

With Tiger Pride,

Misty Middleton
