The Weather Outside is Frightful...
Longhorn Nation-
A ghoulish, spookish month is upon us and so is the cooler weather. Highs in the 80s, yes please! 🍂
October is National Anti-bully Prevention Month and we are joining forces with schools across the country to raise awareness about bullying and ensure that we are a campus that promotes a culture of kindness, acceptance, and inclusion. Our October calendar is filling up fast! Lots of kindness to share around, a few surprises, and some fun activities for everyone. Check out what your counselors have been up to and what's still in store for the rest of the month! You don't want to miss out 🎃

October Happenings
October is National Bullying Prevention Month, a nationwide campaign that started 20 years ago by PACER's National Bullying Prevention Center to raise awareness and educate communities on ending bullying. Their core message is to promote kindness, acceptance, and inclusion while changing the culture that views bullying as a normal rite of passage.
NISD Decision of Respect
In NISD, we jump start October National Bullying Prevention Month by signing the NISD Decision of Respect. As a campus we pledge to be respectful to ourselves, one another, and to our community.
Counselor PopUp
Suicide Awareness Prevention Month
To close out September's Suicide Awareness Prevention Month, we had our very first Counselor PopUp! We couldn't be more proud of the Messages of Hope our students wrote to encourage one another, uplift one another, and share with one another.
Guidance Curriculum
This month we will be visiting with all grade levels to provide a lesson on Interpersonal Relationships, or how we interact and view others. As we know, middle school are the years for discovery: discovery of self, discovery of friends, and discovery of all things new.
6th grade-
We will look at friendships as a staircase. While some peers may be more of acquaintances, we look at how trust and time can really build close friendships.
7th grade-
We will look at how to appropriately resolve conflict. We're not fire starters, but as Smokey put it best, "only you can prevent forest fires." Only we have control of our words, our actions, our behaviors, and our thoughts. What's the best way to resolve conflict? Listening to understand, rather than listening to respond or react.
8th grade-
Protecting our boundaries. In 8th grade we will discuss the importance of setting AND protecting our personal boundaries. Respect, Health, and Safety.
Campus Engagement
#BlueUP on Monday!
Anti-Bully Spirit Week
*Please notice that it is a short week, however we would love to see participation on the socials!*
#RedRibbonWeek
And finally, as we close out October, we pledge to be Drug Free! Red Ribbon Week 2026 is here! We encourage everyone to participate and as a reminder NISD dress code will be enforced and NO costumes or masks are allowed.
Attendance Is Important
We miss you when you're not here! Please remember that student attendance is very important. We want to ensure that student's do not fall behind on any content learned in class or missed assignments. In addition, for our High School credit courses, only 17 absences are allowed for the entire year. Excessive absences will result in denial of credit. Don't let this be you. We want to see you every day 🙃
