Good Morning,
It was so wonderful to see so many families both in person and virtually attend the parent teacher conferences. The parent teacher partnership is a valued and important link to ensuring a positive impact on a students academic and social emotional growth.
We practiced a fire safety drill on Monday afternoon, 11/18. The students did an amazing job listening to their teachers while safely evacuating the building. Great job to all of our Super Friends!
There will be a half day for all students on Wednesday 11/27. Dismissal is at 10:45. This is a busy traffic day as all of WPS will be dismissed at the half day. Please be patient as vans drop off times could vary depending upon traffic. We appreciate your patience.
HEALTH NOTICE FROM WPS NURSING DEPARTMENT:
HEALTH ADVISORIES:
The Massachusetts Department of Public Health/CDC have observed a significant rise in cases of respiratory illnesses caused by Mycoplasma Pneumonia and Pertussis.
M. Pneumoniae(walking pneumonia) is a common cause of community acquired pneumonia, especially in children, and can cause community outbreaks.
It is usually mild and rarely requires hospitalization.
Symptoms include cough, fever, sore throat, headache, tiredness, sneezing, stuffy or runny nose, watery eyes, wheezing.
Pertussis(Whooping cough) is a highly contagious, vaccine preventable illness caused by the bacteria Bordetella pertussis.
It begins with mild upper respiratory tract symptoms and can progress to severe bouts of cough, often with a characteristic respiratory whoop, which may be followed by vomiting.
The cough is often worse at night.
Remind your students to wash their hands with soap and water and to cover their mouth when coughing or sneezing.
Please notify your student’s school nurse if they have been diagnosed with either of the above and/or if you have any questions or concerns.

Safety:
We ask that parents, guardians or anyone you place on your child's pick up list have a picture ID with them. As we get to know our families and caregivers, we may ask for an ID, to verify our caregivers.
Car seat Safety:
All children riding in passenger motor vehicles must be in a federally approved child passenger restraint that is properly fastened and secured according to the manufacturer's instructions until they are 8 years old OR over 57 inches tall.
When children outgrow their booster seats (usually around age 8, but more importantly, when they are taller than 57 inches), they must wear a seat belt that is properly adjusted and fastened according to the manufacturer's instructions until the age of 13.

How to Help your Child have a Successful Morning
About this Series
The Backpack Connection Series was created by TACSEI to provide a way for teachers and parents/caregivers to work together to help young children develop social emotional skills and reduce challenging behavior.
Each Backpack Connection handout provides information that helps parents stay informed about what their child is learning at school and specific ideas on how to use the strategy or skill at home

WECC Textile Bins
Textile bins are way to support our school through passive fundraising. If you have old worn out clothing, blankets, sheets, etc. please consider using our bins.
What happens to my donations? Items are sorted into different grades, including usable / non-
usable items and cotton and synthetics. Usable items are then redistributed to markets in
economically challenged areas, where there is a demand for wearable clothing or other materials.
Non usable items are shredded and used for fillers in many new products.
I'm a Super Reader
Help us reach our goal of 10,000 books
One of the most important gifts we can give our children is to help them learn to read and write so that they can succeed in school and beyond. Confident, active readers are able to use their reading skills to follow their passions and curiosity about the world. We all read for a purpose: to be entertained, to take a journey of the imagination, to connect with others, to figure out how to do something, and to learn about history, science, the arts, and everything else.
We hope to foster the love of reading in our students. Please help us by helping your child read each day. Attached is a reading chart that your child can color each time they read a book. Bring the reading chart to school once all apples are colored and your child will receive a Super Reader sticker. You may choose to only read 10 books per month or submit as many reading charts as you want. We will be keeping track by classroom. If JECC students reach the goal of 10,000 books, we will have a Bubble party at the end of the year.
Help our students reach their goal!
